Development of LED at Municipal Level

Local Economic Development (LED) is a process by which public sector, business and civil society work collectively to create better conditions for economic growth and employment generation. Its purpose is to build up the economic capacity of a local area to improve its economic future and the quality of life for all. Local Economic Development that is successful focuses on enhancing competitiveness, increasing sustainable growth and ensuring that growth is inclusive” (Federation of Canadian Municipalities).

A Local Economic Development plans should be developed for the selected municipality in the framework of AFDAL 3 project, consultant will be working with the municipalities and public and private stakeholders as well as community members through dialogue tables (FGDs and KIIs) and building on existing participatory approaches to facilitate constructive problem solving and local ownership. The dialogue tables led by development consultants will serve as a forum for defining the Food System Assessment at municipal level including a stakeholder mapping, SWOT analysis, Community Needs Assessment, and it will culminate in a list of food system level priorities.

The LED plans should include some policy changes in areas such as climate change adaptation, agriculture production, and employment opportunities for Syrian refugees, women, youth, and people with disabilities.
