The Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality (AFE) is an officially registered non-governmental organization based in Beirut, Lebanon. AFE focuses its efforts exclusively on Arab states across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

AFE supports grassroots activist groups and organizations (Regional Partners) that are working on a wide range of initiatives including human rights , gender and sexual and sexual health. AFE provides a comprehensive package of opportunities for Regional Partners.

Our vision is to have a civil society that is strong, independent of political and financial pressures, free to conduct its work on equality, freedoms, and human rights in a safe environment.  Building a society with a strong sense of citizenship and belonging that does not discriminate in its fight for its people’s rights, for change, and not afraid to make the changes.

AFE's mission is to encourage and support body, gender and sexual rights activists in the Middle East and North Africa in their work by building their capacities, funding the activists to organize and providing emergency support to activists when needed.
AFE Values AFE hold itself, its regional partners and board members to these values:

Integrity: adherence to a moral, unbiased code
Transparency: in all its endeavors, processes and actions
Equality: to view and treat everyone in the same way
Collaboration: amongst each other within the foundation, the board and the partners
Non-discrimination: towards anyone or anything
Respect: for individuals and organizations
Peace and non-violence: to use peaceful means in all actions of the Foundation, its board and the activists it supports.
Freedom:  to work without political or financial restraint or pressure.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is one of the world's regions with the lowest coverage
of prevention services and access to treatment and where AIDS-related deaths continue to rise.
Concentration of the epidemic among key populations, limited access to screening, very low ART
coverage (32% on average), significant discrimination and stigma, weak community-based monitoring
and surveillance systems: the fight against HIV/AIDS is not a public health priority for decision-makers
in many countries in the region.
