1.      Context
In the context of the UK Syria crisis response, we are working in Syria to perform a monitoring function of humanitarian assistance projects to Syria and provide assessment and other expertise that will deepen our understanding of what works and does not work in such a context, and contribute to improved project design.
2.      Main responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Data Analyst/Report Writer (DA/RW) is to support the Output 1 Lead (O1L) in Field Monitoring Report (FMR) drafting and revision.
In addition, depending on needs, the DA/RW may perform the following tasks:
      Supports the Senior Monitoring Expert (SME) and the O1L in FMV questionnaire development;
      Supports the FMV-specific training of field monitors.

3.      Technical tasks
The DA/RW:

Checks the quality of the Arabic language data received from the field team;
Analyses the raw data received from the field team in Arabic and drafts a descriptive summary of findings in English, organised as per FMR assessment criteria;
Provides any support requested by O1L for the drafting and/or revision of the assessment sections of FMRs;
Brings about any issue requiring further consideration to the attention of O1L.

The DA/RW may also be requested to:

Organise and develop FMV-specific questionnaires on the basis of drafts provided by the SME, in close collaboration with O1L;
Participate in the training of field monitors on FMV-specific questionnaires;
Carry out FMV validation;
Requests complementary information from the field team and from the SME to support FMR drafting and revision as needed;
Provides any FMV-specific or portfolio-level support requested by O1L.

4.      Liaison and line management
The DA/RW:

Reports to Aktis for contract-related matters;
Reports to O1L for matters related to the organisation, scheduling, content and quality of the work;
Is available to respond to inquiries at the request of the Team Leader.

5.      Experience and skills required
Only perfectly bilingual Arabic-English candidates with impeccable English writing capacity will be considered for the position. In addition, the candidates will be able to demonstrate:

An outstanding record in field data analysis and synthesis;
A high degree of attention to both substantive and formal details in drafting;
Performance in drafting highly structured documents;
Capacity to work as part of a multi-level team, partly on site and partly remote.

Desirable background and experience include:

An MSc degree, ideally in the social sciences;
Experience in monitoring and evaluation;
Experience in the development of questionnaires for field surveys;
Work experience in relation to the Syrian crisis;
Experience in the field of humanitarian assistance;
Engagement with donors and field work agencies.

6.      Location
The SIM O1 Core team is located in Beirut. Depending on the scope of work agreed, the DA/RW will be requested to reside on site.  Visits to the field team in Gaziantep, as well as occasional visits to other locations across the Middle East may be required.
