Business Expert

The René Moawad Foundation (RMF) is seeking a business expert for "Revitalizing the Local Economy through the Enhancement of Rural Tourism in the Union of Arcoub El Harf Municipalities" project, funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with UNDP Lebanon.

1. Background

The Union of Arkoub El Harf municipalities is in the Chouf district of Mount Lebanon Governorate. Situated in the southeastern part of the country, it encompasses 10 villages. These villages include Barouk, Batloun, Werhaniye, Fouwara, Maaser Beitdine, Madjel El Maouch, Wadi Sett, Biri, kfarnabrakh, and Brih.

The area is renowned for its mountainous terrain, prominently shaped by the Lebanon Mountains, and boasts breathtaking natural landscapes, including the Chouf Cedar Reserve, which holds symbolic significance in Lebanese history and culture. The district’s economy thrives on a combination of agriculture, rural tourism, and traditional industries. With its fertile land and favorable climate, the region is well-suited for cultivating a variety of crops, including fruits, vegetables, and olives. Additionally, it is recognized for producing traditional Lebanese products such as olive oil, honey, and Arak. Rural tourism plays a pivotal role in driving the district's economy, attracting visitors for activities like hiking, birdwatching, and exploring the cedar forests.

It is important to note that the region, like various other parts of Lebanon, has encountered challenges in recent years. Political instability, economic hardships, and conflict have affected the overall development and prosperity of the area. Despite these obstacles, the Arkoub El Harf UoM continues to showcase its natural beauty, rich heritage, and resilient communities, making it a compelling destination for travelers seeking authentic experiences in Lebanon.

The René Moawad Foundation (RMF) is implementing the "Revitalizing the Local Economy through the Enhancement of Rural Tourism in the Union of Arcoub El Harf Municipalities" project, funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with UNDP Lebanon.

RMF is looking for a business expert to provide guidance and technical support.

1. Position Overview:

The project aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises or start-ups in Arkoub El Harf region. To achieve this goal, RMF seeks to engage a business expert to provide guidance and technical support.

1. Scope of Work:

The business expert will be responsible of the following:

• Support with the selection review for all the applied MSMEs, with field visits when needed.
• Conduct regular field visits to engage with beneficiaries.
• Identify growth and new opportunities.
• Develop tailored business strategies and operational plans.
• Provide a comprehensive report with recommendations and a road map for implementation.
• The business expert will work closely and report to the Project Manager.

Deliverables:

• Report for the selected MSMEs with justifications.
• Report a detailed strategic plan for each MSME with justifications.
• Report an equipment plan for each MSME.
• Final detailed report.

1. Professional skills:

• Strong understanding of the growth needs of the MSMEs.
• Experience in agro-food development and innovation.
• Proficient in English and Arabic.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.

1. Education and Experience:

• A bachelor's degree in Business, agro-food, entrepreneurship or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in agro-food business consulting, start-ups guiding, agro-marketing.

• Demonstrated experience in working with MSMEs or start-ups.
• Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of the local agro-business market.
