Médecins Sans Frontières /HR department
- Accountabilities:
- Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients in emergency situation.
- Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
- Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary, in order to propose the best support available.
- Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality
- Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
- Take active part in trainings, supervisions/interventions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.
- Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with supervisor.
- MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:
- Carry out immediate crisis intervention and counseling for patients and families.
- Appropriately triages patients on the field, prioritizes and processes cases efficiently and respectfully, and refers them to a psychologist when necessary.
- Implement crisis intervention and prevention techniques, including Psychological First Aid (PFA) for adults and children.
- Engage in play and art activities with children in the safe space to help them destress.
- Help children use positive coping strategies, connect with others, and re-establish familiar routines.
- Requirements:
Education
Essential: bachelor’s degree in psychology or related/similar degree.
Experience
Essential: 1-year experience of previous work experience as a counsellor educator
Essential: 1 year experience in group sessions
Desirable: Previous work experience with (I)NGO
Desirable: Previous experience in Medical Mobile Units (MMUs).
Languages
Essential: Full professional proficiency using the Arabic Language
Desirable: Elementary to limited professional proficiency in English
Desirable: Elementary to limited professional proficiency in French
