Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the Field Security Coordination Office, Security Section, in the
United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Naqoura. The Field Security Assistant
will report directly to the Chief of Security Training Unit/Supervisor.
 

Responsibilities

1- Provide general required support services to help and assist the Duty Security officers and
Sector Security officers in their duties towards the UN SMs, their dependents [i.e. dealing
with the Warden System], and UN Facilities.
• Ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information that may be required for
a proper analysis of the situation by the CSO, DCSO, Security Officers [FS];
• Support all matters pertaining to the collection, up-dating, verification, dissemination of all
relevant information regarding the security situation in the country;
• Operate any data communication equipment used by the Emergency Communication
System [ECS], satellite telephone, VHF, HF, e-mail and fax etc.
The Emergency Communication System [ECS] in the operations office is monitored 24 hours
a day and requires the person holding the post to work shifts and holidays when required.
• Ensure security of Database and sensitive information in the Operation Offices. Performs
data entry and extraction functions.
2- Participate to the development of the Security Plans.
• Helps in the preparation of the UN Security Plan;
• Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan, as required.
3- Monitor and facilitate the implementation of security policies and procedures in close
coordination with CSO, DCSO, Operation Unit, Security Information, Communication Unit,
and SIOC.
• Monitoring compliance with Security Risk Management (SRM) procedures and Residential
Security Measures (RSM) established for the duty station.
4- Conducts security training as appropriate.
• Provides support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and
preparedness, and providing security orientation to newly assigned staff members. Conducts
security briefings, as required.
5- Assists in investigating security incidents affecting UN Staff and Offices, and helps to
assess the special security cases which require proper investigation and analysis.
6- Coordinate with the Pass & ID unit and issue IDs, in accordance with the Security PASS &
ID Unit SOPs, for the staff members and Military when required.
7- Provides general administrative assistance to the Security Officers at the Operation Unit.
Prepare Security presentations of the CSO and the Security Officers at the OPS. Maintains
routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
• Receive the Security Clearances requests and process them in to the proper channels
according to the locations/ Destinations and Security rules and regulations.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job Specific Qualifications
A national type B driving license is required.
Specialized Security training/courses are desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of three (03) years of relevant experience in Security or related areas such as
Police and Military experience is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is
reduced to 1 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
The Field Security Assistant should be flexible to travel and work, within the Area of
Operation, in all the security offices in the region [Sector East &West, Tyr, Beirut].
Previous experience in conducting security-related training is desirable.
Proven experience in camp/physical security is desirable.
Proficiency in drafting security advisories and incident reports, or similar documents, in
English language is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the
position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.

Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be
followed by competency-based interview.
