The Roving Social Worker plays a pivotal role in coordinating delivered care and support to clients benefiting from multiple protection and health interventions mainly addressed to women and girls at risk of or survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in different locations in Akkar. She also assesses available social resources and stressors and works on addressing them. Referrals and case management also fall within the scope of their work.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Conduct a daily variety of structured activities (recreational, psychosocial, and non-formal education) within the center, catering to different clients' needs and in accordance with the weekly activities schedule.

-Conduct full assessment of the person’s social needs including psychosocial stressors in-line with the biopsychosocial model.

-Address psychosocial stressors (i.e., unemployment, family conflict, relationship problems, etc.).

-Provide psychoeducation sessions on priority MNS conditions (Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Psychosis, Developmental Disorders, Substance use).

-Provide low-intensity psychological interventions and psychosocial support to persons with MH conditions or psychological distressed.

-Provide immediate MHPSS support to clients who survived traumatic experiences using Psychological First Aid (PFA).

-Effectively assess and support persons in crisis.

-Formulate and implement a recovery plan after liaising with the psychologist and the protection colleagues.

-Coordinate closely with protection colleagues throughout the different steps of case management.

-Liaise with relevant persons and entities that are linked to clients/ survivors, as needed.

-Implement the Protocol on the Management of High-risk Cases.

-Support in the development and implementation of community-based interventions in close collaboration with the community health workers (CHWs).

-Assess the risk of suicide, manage suicide risk, and conduct safety planning in adherence to the high-risk protocol.

-Ensure referrals to and from community services and a timely follow-up (health, protection, education, social, income generation, etc.) as needed.

-Refer patients to self-help interventions (like the Step-by-Step electronic application) or mutual help groups (Self-Help Plus [SH+]), as needed.

-Administer WHODAS and/ or other relevant tools to assess functioning in accordance with the set protocols.

-Ensure adequate follow-up of patients and referrals.

-Ensure that the confidentiality and privacy of the clients are always maintained.

-Conduct field visits as necessary.

-Rove between the different mobile safe spaces and provide social support services.

-Participate and stay up to date with community mapping exercises for health, social, educational, protection, and other community-based services in the catchment area.

-Actively participate in MHPSS coordination and technical meetings.

-Attend capacity building training workshops.

  • -Reporting:
    • Submit the referral report monthly (contain information regarding age, gender, nationality of beneficiaries, referral status…) to management.
    • Ensure monthly submission of deliverables (such as number of awareness sessions, number of training workshops, number of assessment sessions…).
    • Report any emerging issue firsthand to the direct supervisor.   

Skills and Competencies

-Excellent interpersonal communication skills (building rapport, listening skills, be able to communicate information in a clear way) and facilitation skills.

 -Have good organizational and time management skills, accountability, reliability, and punctuality.

-Must maintain a positive attitude.

-Knowledge about the predictable stressors of humanitarian aid work and the policies and practices needed to mitigate them.

-Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, non-discrimination, and readiness to work with men, women, and girls and boys from diverse backgrounds, particularly the most marginalized segments of the community.

-Must have the ability to adhere to ethical considerations and principles regarding work with vulnerable populations.

-Candidate must be skilled in or willing to build their capacity and knowledge in:

1.Developing family-centered, goal and strength focused, recovery-oriented care plan.

2.Mental health in complex emergencies (IASC guidelines, Psychological First Aid, mhGAP…)

 Biopsychosocial model in mental health.

3.Community-based approach in mental health.

4.Human rights-based approach in mental health.

5.Knowledge about the predictable stresses of humanitarian aid work and the policies and practices needed to mitigate them.

-Good command of Microsoft Office and internet use.

  • Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor or Masters in Social work.

    Experience requirement: 1 to 3 years of experience working in a similar position.

    Language: Fluent in Arabic and English.
