Reports To: Livelihoods Project Manager

Job Purpose: The Nursery Specialist plays a vital role in the delivery of child care services at B&Z Nursery within Shatila camp. This position bears the responsibility of overseeing all aspects of nursery operations and fostering an environment conducive to child growth and development. By providing expert guidance, implementing safety measures, and ensuring the well-being of children under the nursery's care aged between 3 and 9 years old, the Nursery Specialist contributes to a nurturing and secure atmosphere.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a safe and fun environment for young children while waiting for their parents.
  • The Nursery Specialist will strictly adhere to Basmeh and Zeitooneh's child protection, safeguarding & PSEA policies and procedures, ensuring that all interactions and activities prioritize the safety and well-being of children.
  • Develop and maintain a child-centered environment. Using child development principles, the Nursery Specialist will design and implement age-appropriate activities that encourage children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
  • Monitor and supervise children at all times. The Nursery Specialist will maintain vigilant supervision to prevent accidents, conflicts, or potential risks.
  • Foster positive relationships among children. Promoting an atmosphere of respect and cooperation, the Nursery Specialist will encourage children to interact positively, resolve conflicts, and understand the importance of empathy and inclusivity.
  • Ensure the physical safety and cleanliness of the nursery. Regular checks of facilities, equipment, and resources will be conducted to guarantee their suitability, safety, and hygiene.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians. The Nursery Specialist will maintain open lines of communication with parents, sharing information about children's progress, activities, and any concerns that may arise.
  • Uphold child protection and confidentiality. All personal information about children and their families will be treated with utmost confidentiality, following Basmeh and Zeitooneh's policies.
  • Address concerns and incidents promptly. The Nursery Specialist will report any incidents, concerns, or suspicions related to child safety, well-being, or protection in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Participate in child protection, safeguarding & PSEA induction sessions. Continuous learning and training in child protection practices and principles will be undertaken to ensure the highest standards of care.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Child Safety and Well-being:
  1. Zero incidents of child accidents or injuries within the nursery.
  2. Compliance with Basmeh and Zeitooneh's child protection, safe-safeguarding & PSEA policies and protocols.
  3. Regularly updated child records, including emergency contact information and medical needs.
  • Effective Communication:
  1. Regular communication with parents and guardians regarding children's daily activities, progress, and any concerns.
  2. Open channels of communication with the Livelihoods Project Manager and team members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Hygiene and Facility Management:
  1. Maintaining a clean and safe environment for children, including regular sanitation routines.
  2. Proper maintenance of nursery facilities, equipment, and resources.
  • Adherence to Policies:
  1. Consistent adherence to Basmeh and Zeitooneh's policies, including child protection, confidentiality, and other relevant guidelines.
  2. Prompt reporting of any policy violations or concerns to appropriate authorities.
  • Team Collaboration:
  1. Positive feedback from team members regarding collaborative efforts and support within the nursery environment.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing and supervising child care programs, with a strong focus on child protection and child development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with implementing child protection policies and principles, preferably within a humanitarian or community-based organization.
  • Training and certifications in child protection, first aid, and emergency response are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Basmeh and Zeitooneh policies and principles is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, and team members.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
