Purpose of Placement

Action Aid Arab Region (AAAR) and its local partner SHIFT have planned to establish a new Global Platform (Youth Hub) in Tripoli, where we are seeking a dynamic and motivated inspirator to support in the establishment of the Global Platform and to support designing and implementation of the youth-friendly activities at the Global Platform.

People who will work closely with the Inspirator and deepen their knowledge and skills during the placement

What will be done together with the hosting organization? (70 % of the Inspirator’s time)

Finalize Outreach/Mobilization plan

  • Work closely with the outreach officer and mobilizer to create a way of reaching the targeted youth based on target criteria.
  • Support SHIFT in mobilizing youth circles and the youth core team.
  • Ensure that the mobilization plan is accountable and transparent.

Support the design of the Global Platform physical space in Tripoli.

  • The inspirator will support the youth group in creating a green design using re-cycle and up-cycle materials.
  • Support youth groups in developing the platform ground rules.

Support the functioning and operating of the Global Platform in Tripoli.

  • Support in designing the youth capacity needs survey to identify the main training topics and other youth-friendly day-to-day activities e.g., events, movie nights, cultural days, Yoga, etc.  
  • Support SHIFT and the youth core team in operating the day-to-day work.
  • Conduct induction sessions for youth at the GP.  
  • Support youth groups in designing and implementing initiatives and youth-led actions.

 

What will be done together with other partners, groups, and organizations (15 % of the Inspirator’s time)

Support SHIFT trainer in mainstreaming green design and functions at the space

  • Presenting inspirational ideas from other GPs around the world in space design.
  • Prompting green alternatives in the space and supporting youth to adapt to the space.

 

Other tasks (15% of the Inspirator’s time)

  • Provide mentorship for young people who have attended training at the GP.
  • Mentor and support young people in their creative campaigning and organizing efforts at the GP youth hubs.
  • Support specific learning and campaign activities coordinated by ActionAid or the GP.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing networks like the Global Inspirator Learning network.
  • Cross-country knowledge exchange initiatives.
  • Personal training and development through induction courses and other training opportunities.

 

Required skills and work/volunteer experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in social studies or any relevant experience
  • Min 1-year experience at one of the ActionAid global platforms or at a youth hub related to other youth organizations or social movements. Or inspiring experience from another relevant youth project initiative.
  • Knowledge of relevant concepts of international refugee and human rights law and understanding of protection principles and significant understanding of Lebanon’s humanitarian, political and socio-economic context, and main challenges affecting refugees in Lebanon.
  • Preferably Arabic speaking but not a MUST.
  • English and Arabic Written documentation skills.

Location security situation & risk mitigation

  • Lebanon is experiencing a prolonged and severe economic crisis. The situation is unpredictable and could deteriorate without warning.
  • Basic commodities (fuel, medicines, food) have become increasingly scarce. Electricity in Lebanon is also very limited. The availability and quality of medical treatment are affected by the economic crisis and fuel shortages.
  • Crime, including bag theft, property crime, and sexual harassment in public spaces, has increased as a result of the economic decline in Lebanon.
  • Having a valid passport is a must also.
