ACCOUNTANT

     

  1. BACKGROUND

Step Together Association (STA) is a secular, non-political and non-profit organization that works with children and adults with special needs.

Step Together is inspired by the educational principles of Rudolf Steiner* and is recognized by the international curative education council at Goetheanum (Switzerland). Rudolf Steiner’s ideology and educational methods are based on the acceptance of the spiritual uniqueness of each human being regardless of his disabilities, religious or racial background.

Step Together’s curriculum adopts the Rudolf Steiner ideology, which is a system that enables special needs to grow and develop with acceptance and love. It takes into account the academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual uniqueness of each individual and emphasizes artistic activity as integral part to all learning.

The association offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to education, care, and therapy for around 200 special needs individuals with learning difficulties, intellectual disabilities and different levels of autism, ranging in ages between 3 to 60 years old, across its different programs. Its work also involves monitoring the health of students and extending emotional and psychological support to their families.

Step Together Association is located by the riverside of Mansourieh Al Daishounieh, a mere 15 minutes’ drive from downtown Beirut, a venue that lies amidst a peaceful environmentally protected area, surrounded by trees, mountains and water.

  1. JOB PURPOSE

The Accountant ‘position is responsible for assisting in creating accurate and timely financial records for the association. Advising of current budgetary information and working with association leaders to create a fiscal strategy that aligns with the goals of the organization. The role applies principles of accounting to analyze past and present financial operations and estimates future revenues and expenditures to prepare budget.

  1. SCOPE OF WORK AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Ensuring the accuracy of financial documents, as well as their compliance with relevant laws and regulation
  2. Establish records of accounts and input entries into proper accounts.

  3. Preparing tax returns and ensuring that taxes are paid properly and on time

  4. Work with auditors to finalize all budgetary ins and outs.
  5. Monitor past due statements/invoices from students and suppliers.
  6. Reconcile various balance sheet accounts relative to POS, inventories/accounts payable and maintain standard cost supplemental schedules.
  7. Daily Transactions Balance, Bank Reconciliation, Check Issuance and Payroll administration.
  8. Prepares daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports for all duties related to job description.
  9. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  10. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

  • Effective communication and storytelling:Accountant need to use their insights and business understanding to weave accurate and compelling narratives that make the organization’s purpose and strategy.
  • Trust and confidence:Accountant need to reinforce confidence in the organization’s governance, data, processes, systems and reporting.

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
  2. Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Accounting Management, Business Management, or related discipline from an accredited institution.

  1. Experience
  2. Essential Experience:

One to three years accounting and training experience.

  1. Desirable experience:

A previous NGO experience is preferrable.

  2.   Language Proficiency:
    • Mastery of English communication skills, both written and oral; French would be an advantage

2.         Computer Proficiency:

    • Strong Microsoft Excel, Power point, Word
    • Data analysis
    • Ability to use web-based tools for research and communication is an advantage.

  • Ability to Prepare Financial Statements.
  1. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

He / She reports to the administration manager or to the president of Step Together. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

  1. WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  1. PHYSICAL HARDSHIP

No physical hardship is associated with this position

  1. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

  1. TRAVEL

No travel is expected for this position.
