As a mean to respond to the increasing human needs in Lebanon under multiple crises, Action against hunger is launching the roster pools project, in this initiative we will validate all interested and qualified individuals in Finance, the applicants will become a part of our active pool and shall be contacted and prioritized when we have any open position or urgent gap to fill. 

Action against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation. 

In Lebanon, the Syrian crisis continues to generate political, social and economic pressure due to the war in Lebanon and keeps more than 1.5 million refugees in a situation of increasing vulnerability.. In this environment of political, economic and social uncertainty, our teams have maintained their high levels of humanitarian response and aid to Lebanon. Likewise, our interventions have been maintained in the Bekaa and northern areas, as well as in the south of the country, with a special focus on working in partnership or in consortium with other organizations and on institutional strengthening of the relationship with both donors. institutional, such as with local authorities and entities.  

WE WORK IN LEBANON AGAINST COVID-19 

  • Focusing on Syrian refugee population and Lebanese host communities,  
  • mobilization committees, 
  • isolation centers,  
  • municipalities and service providers. 
  • Conducting training for health personnel.  
  • Distributing disinfection and dignity kits.  
  • Installing latrines for people with specific needs in Aarsal.  
  • Carrying out channel cleaning to ensure proper drainage. Distributing water through tanker trucks.  

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

 Action Against Hunger has been present in Lebanon for over 15 years, with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions being a primary focus for the organization from the early start. From infrastructural projects to humanitarian assistance, Action Against Hunger’s WASH Department has a vast portfolio of interventions throughout the country. Currently, our focus as a department is to be able to respond to the numerous challenges faced by a Sector that is in constant need. We continue to support Syrian refugees living in ITS with water, sanitation, and hygiene services while we try to expand to other refugee settings (mainly Collective Shelters) where there are considerable gaps since the start of the financial crisis in 2019. In the other hand, Action Against Hunger also seek to support public access to water for Lebanese households, maintaining water operators’ capacity (mainly Water Establishments and Municipalities) to continue providing services despite the collapse of the financial system. Finally, we are also committed to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing IPC and disinfection kits to positive or suspected cases but also raising awareness to increase hygienic behaviours that will limit the spread of the virus at community level and public spaces.  

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

These objectives are comprehensive to different positions levels; if you qualify for minimum 3 of the below mentioned objectives, then you are eligible to apply.

  • Objective 1: Ensure timely and quality implementation of hard and soft components of water, sanitation activities, and hygiene interventions in Informal Settlements or Collective Shelters. 
  • Objective 2: Support on the preparation of new proposals, but also internal and external reporting for donors. 
  • Objective 3: Budget and procurement follow-up, workplan preparation, team management and capacity building experience. 
  • Objective 4: Activity field monitoring, reporting and data collection. 
  • Objective 5: External representation and development of Action Against Hunger’s WASH strategy in Lebanon based on a sound contextual analysis. 
  • Objective 6: Understanding and analyzing the WASH sector in Lebanon and define priorities of intervention according to the country’s strategic priorities, the humanitarian community sector guidance and Action Against Hunger’s principles of action, while representing the organization in the country. 
  • Objective 7: Ensure capitalization of Action Against Hunger’s previous and future interventions in the WASH Sector 

PROFILE

Training/ Education: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, water, environmental or Civil engineering, management of humanitarian action or any other related field. 

Technical specific knowledge: Knowledge of water supply & construction of WASH infrastructure, and cash for work. 

Previous experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in designing and implementing Water Sanitation & Hygiene Systems in development and/or humanitarian projects 

Significant experience in working in collaboration with local partners and government bodies. 

Excellent knowledge of project cycle management.  

Private Sector experience will be considered 

Experience in team management is a plus 

Humanitarian sector knowledge: Good knowledge of INGOs and donor agencies procedure is highly desirable in addition to knowledge in guidelines and intervention in the country 

Respect for ACH Security Regulations 

Languages: Arabic and English 

IT and specific systems: Good skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and good skills in smart phones 

Mobility (national/ international) National 

 PROFILE CONCLUSIONS: 

  • Solid organizational and planning skills. Ability to handle high workload and prioritize in a timely and effective manner.  
  • Professional Oral and Written communication skills – and the ability to produce reports and different documents in a good quality 
  • Solid teamwork and good conflict resolution skills and Motivation to work for a humanitarian cause. 
  • The candidate should have a good knowledge in the project cycle management to ensure that the target objectives are met and motivation to learn in a rapidly changing context 
  • Flexible person with good understanding of procedures and policies and for ACH humanitarian principals: Independence, Neutrality, Non-discrimination, Free and direct access to victims, Professionalism, and Transparency 
  • WASH technical knowledge and an understanding of different emergencies to ensure a good implementation of the activities and achievements of results, in accordance with the Donors’ standards and Action Against Hunger’s strategy in the country.
