Established in 1976, RDFL is a secular non-governmental women organization which works with the democratic forces and represents a part of the advocacy secular democratic women’s movement, on the basis of international pacts and treaties, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in order to promote women’s status and participation and empower them, aiming at achieving full equality between both sexes.

RDFL is an active and major member that founded and worked within the national coalition to protect women from domestic violence, where it played a major role in campaigning for the ratification of the Law to Protect Women from Domestic Violence.

Under the direct supervision of and guidance of RDFL ,the GBV Specialist will be responsible for the functions/results indicated below.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a curriculum for the trainings on the awareness for response and prevention of GBV using its extensive experience in GBV response and prevention programming.
  • Draft a curriculum in Arabic based on the needs and profile of the target beneficiaries.
  • Prepare topics related to the effect of violence on individuals, families and communities. This includes the definition of violence, its types and forms, GBV, women’s rights, protection mechanisms from violence, reproductive health, current laws and international conventions, difference between gender and sex, child marriage, and others. There should be also a section on how to endorse gender sensitive practices and policies in private and public sector.
  • Prepare a pre and post test for each GBV awareness session.
  • Prepare the curricula to best suit the needs of the beneficiaries. 
  • Ensure GBV response in projects and activities is being addressed within the overall gender equality and empowerment of women lens.
  • Provide technical support for an efficient implementation.
  • Prepare a two-day training for facilitators to improve their performance in their current role through a capacity development plan elaborated and implemented
  • Detailed work plan for the GBV sessions

 

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree in law, social sciences, or gender and development or related field;
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible relevant professional experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the Lebanese context, legal apparatus, as well as current challenge;
  • Extensive knowledge of gender issues in development, particularly GBV, including relevant international human rights standards;
  • Prior training in gender and GBV issues and their application in humanitarian, conflict recovery and development settings;
  • Prior experience in counselling and psychosocial support will be an asset
  • Field experience in complex emergencies, including humanitarian emergency response and peace and reconciliation, is a strong asset;
  • Experience in utilizing the following internationals tools: GBV Standard Operating Procedures; GBV Information Management System; IASC GBV Guidelines; IASC Gender Handbook; GBV Coordination Handbook; WHO Ethical and Safety Recommendations;
  • Strong experience in developing work plans
  • Strong ability to draft, edit, and produce results-focused reports meeting international standards;
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic
