Location: Tahaddi Education Center, Southern Beirut (Hay El Gharbeh)

Work type: Full-time:37.5 hours per week between 8:00 AM- 3:30 PM (Monday-Friday) with one day from 10:30 to 6:00 PM

Position summary: In close collaboration with the Career Counselor, work with the youth involved in the Career Development Program (CDP), including Tahaddi students, youth placed in traineeships or vocational trainings, and youth placed in their first employment.

Regularly visit the training providers and vocational schools where youth are placed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

All classes or youth involved in the program according to their age:

 

  • In close collaboration with the Career Counselor, provide awareness sessions on self-knowledge, decision-making, communication and life skills related to work and work ethics, including self-discipline, problem solving, social responsibility and self-confidence.
  • Provide sessions on anger management, self-esteem and social skills, and other topics responding to youth needs and priorities.
  • In close collaboration with the Career Counselor, provide awareness sessions to parents of students who take part in the Career Development Program.
  • Organize visits with youth to vocational training providers, potential workplaces, factories and institutions at least twice a year.
  • Keep track of attendance, prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
  • Identify new employers for traineeships and one-day-placement opportunities. Maintain and regularly update a roster of potential employers.
  • Identify new vocational training providers. Maintain and regularly update a roster of vocational training courses available to students.
  • Perform other duties of similar nature as requested by management.

 

 

Level 6

 

    • Explore, contact and visit new one-day possible training providers.
    • Organize visits to training providers with students of level 6 prior to their placement (2 placements per school year).
    • In close collaboration with educators and students to be placed in the one-day trainings, prepare a thorough worksheet including questions, pictures to be taken, etc.
    • Organize transportation to and from the training providers.
    • In close collaboration with educators and students, prepare a presentation on one- day trainings to present to parents and peers.

 

Level 7

 

    • Explore, contact and visit new possible training places or vocational partners.
    • Organize employer visits with students of level 7 prior to their placement in traineeships.
    • In close collaboration with the Career Counselor, the trainers and the trainees, establish clear monthly objectives to reach during the trainings in-house or outside Tahaddi. Visit the trainees monthly in the work place to monitor progress and check on employment conditions.
    • Organize transportation to and from training locations, as required.
    • Meet monthly with the academic team to share progress and challenges.
    • Support students in maintaining accurate and updated career development portfolios.

 

 

Level 8

    • Assist parents and youth in registering in vocational schools or trainings.
    • Follow-up with students of level 8 registered in vocational programs and keep track of attendance, challenges and achievements.
    • If youth are placed in traineeships or in apprenticeships, establish clear objectives with partners, employers and apprentices/trainees, making sure employers provide decent employment conditions.
    • Organize a weekly group with the youth of Level 8 at Tahaddi in the late afternoon to:
  • Debrief on the week on the different places of trainings/work
  • Lead activities with youth.
  • Lead or facilitate awareness sessions according to youth needs
    • Maintain an accurate and complete student portfolio with the youth.

 

 

Youth after Vocational Training

 

  • Assist in writing a CV and provide soft skills as required.
  • If needed, accompany youth to workplaces and interviews.
  • Check on youth on a regular basis to discuss problems or challenges.
  • If needed visit and maintain contact with employers.
  • Refer to other employment organizations.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an accredited university. 
  • At least one year of work experience in a busy communitybased setting,  working with families facing considerable economic and social pressure.                   
  • Selfmotivation and ability to take initiatives and work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work in an economically disadvantaged community and within basic facilities.
  • Adherence to Tahaddi’s core values of justice, integrity and compassion, and ability to respectfully work with youth and adults.
  • Native speaker of Arabic, with fluency in English and/or French.
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel and Power point.
