WHO Syria 2023 End of Year Infographic Report: HeRAMS Implementation in Public Health Centres

Background

Health Resources Availability Mapping System (HeRAMS) is an information system developed to gather data on the status health services and resources. It evaluates and monitors the accessibility of healthcare services during emergencies. The tool was tailored for Syria following several consultative discussions with the Ministry of Health and partners in the health sector, which resulted in a customized tool that is aligned with the priorities of the health sector. Launched in 2013 as part of WHO’s initiatives to strengthen Syria’s health information system amidst the ongoing crisis, HeRAMS highlights the extensive damage to health infrastructure, inadequacies in medical personnel, and shortages of supplies caused by a decade-long conflict. Having accurate and current data about health facilities, available services, and resource shortfalls has become essential for resource mobilization, resource allocation, and humanitarian response planning within the sector.

HeRAMS continues to be an essential tool in Syria, providing datasets that offer critical insights into health services and resources. Regular updates and assessments monitor changes in health service, resources and help address emerging needs.
