Description:

Women Now defines itself as a feminist, women-led NGO dedicated to deepening and strengthening women’s role in Syrian and host communities by enhancing their political, social, and economic participation. We implement programmes in four Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS): two in Northern Syria and two in Bekaa, Lebanon, reaching thousands of women and girls annually. Among our key strengths lies in our holistic approach to supporting women and girls:

1-) Protection: we provide psychosocial support to women and girls through one-to-one case management, group sessions and awareness-raising sessions.

2-) Empowerment: we facilitate the empowerment of women and adolescent girls through education and vocational training, from literacy, English and IT skills, to basic nursing and small business management.

3-) Participation: we work to increase women’s participation in civil and political life and decision-making processes, by strengthening their leadership skills and providing platforms for them to engage in and influence public discourses and frameworks for change.

4-) Advocacy and Research: we amplify women’s voices by supporting local advocacy campaigns, driven by women at the grassroots level, as well as through our own international advocacy work within transitional justice processes and rights-monitoring mechanisms. We document and collect experiences and testimonials, conduct in-depth research and analysis concerning women’s rights, women-led activist movements, feminist civil society initiatives, gender-based violence and women’s living conditions in Syria and host communities.

5-) Community-mobilization and movement-building: We help build and consolidate the leadership and self-organization skills of women and girls, as well as provide platform/spaces for them to voice their opinions, needs, and concerns and to uphold their human rights.
