UNRWA Opens Two Designated Emergency Shelters for Displaced

Beirut

In response to the ongoing developments and the escalating conflict in Lebanon, UNRWA announces the opening of two of its Designated Emergency Shelters (DESs) for displaced individuals: Toubas School in Nahr El Bared in the north and Siblin Training Centre in the south. UNRWA management teams are on the ground at these DESs to receive and support the displaced. Additional DESs will be opened as needed. The Agency has pre-positioned food, and non-food supplies to support the displaced.

While UNRWA prioritizes Palestine refugees in these shelters, it remains committed to assisting individuals of other nationalities in need during times of escalation, depending on resource availability. This commitment aligns with shared humanitarian principles and values—such as generosity, solidarity, and reciprocity—that are essential in conflict environments. In this context, the Agency provided some supplies yesterday to the municipality of Al Wardaneyeh village in Iqlim Al Khroub to support the displaced individuals hosted in the area.

UNRWA is also responding to the request of the Saida municipality to open Nablus school for the displaced from the south as of tomorrow.

As of today, the Agency has activated its emergency response plan, which includes providing hospitalization for wounded registered Palestine refugee civilians at contracted hospitals, as per its existing hospitalization policy for each hospital.

“We are making all efforts now to support displaced persons in these challenging times. We hope that peace is restored soon,” said Dorothee Klaus, the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon. “I want to extend my thanks to all my colleagues, especially those working to support the displaced during these difficult times,” she added.
