The Staff Counselor will provide expert services to the Office of the Representative in Lebanon, its management and its staff, to improve the well-being of UNHCR personnel in the country;
The Counselor will receive functional guidance from a Staff Welfare Officer of Staff Welfare Section, DHRM at Headquarters, and operational guidance from the Management in Lebanon;
The Counselor will refer to the policies, standards, rules and regulations which are in force within UNHCR and which are relevant to the functions of the consultant Counselor.

II - Duties and Responsibilities

Promote a holistic approach to staff wellbeing in close cooperation with Senior Management in Lebanon, and the Staff Welfare Section through;

focus group based assessment of psycho-social status and needs of the UNHCR staff  in the country;
development and implementation of staff wellbeinginitiatives addressing the psycho-social needs of staff,mainly in the form of group counseling sessions, training, and sensitization meetings;

Special emphases are to be placed on psychological assistance to the staff in regular and direct contact with persons of concern;
Facilitate access to individual counseling of staff and family members in need for such services;

Support the UNHCR Peer Support Personnel Network within the country through technical supervision of its activities, in co-ordination with the Staff Welfare Section.

Demonstrates the highest level of confidentiality;
Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability ;
Demonstrates well-developed communication, leadership, and team building skills ;
Holds additional training or experience in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, critical incident stress and cross cultural communication would be an asset ;
Demonstrates mature judgment combined with a proactive and energetic approach to problem solving.

IV- Frequency of Visits
One day per week, preferably on Fridays (for the North and Bekaa teams to be able to benefit from the services of the counselor).
