About the project:

Under the project of Mental Health Strengthening and Innovation Project for Equal Access to Health Care). A consortium of three organizations, MdM, Skoun, Embrace, and the National Mental Health Program (NMHP), supported by the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), aims to improve the opportunities for women, men, boys, girls, and gender non-compliant individuals in Lebanon to enjoy the best possible mental health and wellbeing. The consortium aims to reach its objective by supporting community-based Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) and Substance Uses (SU) systems offering appropriate, quality, and gender-inclusive services to all people living in Lebanon, particularly the most vulnerable groups and people at risk while tackling gender barriers in service access and gender biases in service provision. The specific activities of the project target the different levels of the social-ecological model with activities designed and aimed at the individual, interpersonal, organizational, and community levels.

Objectives/ purpose

Skoun provides accessible treatment, education, and protection for all people who use drugs.

Outreach Volunteers (OVs) work together under a team to support community-based Substance Use (SU); Mental Health (MH) and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) by offering appropriate, quality, and gender-inclusive services to all people living in Lebanon, particularly the most vulnerable groups and people

Activities:

Under the guidance and supervision of the “Outreach Program Coordinator,” the outreach volunteer (OV) will:

  • Implement different outreach interventions related to substance use and mental health
  • Develop an understanding of the community's culture and respond to its challenges.
  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate field visits on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct voluntary counseling and testing for Sexually Transmitted Infection including sensitization, harm reduction techniques, and follow-up when necessary, according to the National Aids Program and Skoun’s guidelines and
  • Introduce the community to the services provided by the center and partners and refer when needed
  • Contribute to area service mapping
  • Abide by the outreach agreement during field visits including the necessary steps required to ensure the safety of the team and the individuals.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other volunteers from other NGOs and stakeholders.
  • Supporting other departments within Skoun in their activities, based on the request of the coordinator.

Perform any other additional Volunteering activity based on the request of his/her supervisor

Criteria of selection

Technical skills and qualifications:

  • Able to commit around 20 hours/Month
  • Knowledge in Harm Reduction and SHRH
  • 1-2 years of related experience, preferably in a similar industry
  • Fluent in Arabic, English is a plus
  • Age range starting 18 and above
  • Knowledge of the area of operations.
  • Able to use tools provided such as Kobo.
  • Have knowledge or background on sexual transmission infections.
  • Ability to reach new stakeholders in the area.
