Description:

The Opportunity

The Lebanon Education sector was established as a response to the Syria crisis and with a primary mandate of coordination activities within the now unified response plan (LRP). Currently, Lebanon is undergoing one of its deepest economic and political crises that is threatening the social fabric of the country and putting the education sector at the brink of collapse. The escalation of conflict at the Southern border has further complicated a multi-layered crisis, with localized school closures and increasing displacements. Chaired by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and co-led by UNICEF and Save the Children, the Education Sector establishes a system for leadership and accountability of the Education in Emergencies (EiE) response, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for the various stakeholders. The Sector provides a framework for effective partnership between the MEHE, international and national humanitarian actors, civil society organizations and affected populations.

The Education Sector Coordinators need to ensure a coherent and effective response to the changing education needs by coordinating agencies engaging in Education interventions by working closely with the education stakeholders (children, families, communities, authorities, education institutions and INGOs and UN agencies) to provide an effective, timely and strategic collective response to the education crisis in Lebanon.

The Education Sector Coordinator will work impartially, representing all members of the Education Sector and should work closely with UNICEF as Education Sector co-lead and UN OCHA through the Emergency Operation Cell and with MEHE.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education, International Relations, Human Rights or Development Studies.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
  • 3-6 years of progressive experience in networking or coordination within previous functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing partnerships with NGOs / CSOs and government
  • Experience in strategy development and fundraising
  • Strong experience in data collection and analysis
  • Strong understanding of child rights and governance.

We offer a competitive package in the context of the sector. This role is offered on the basis of national terms and conditions only.

The Organization

We employ approximately 25,000 people across the globe and work on the ground in over 100 countries to help children affected by crises, or those who need better healthcare, education, and Child Protection. We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realise the right of children and to ensure their voices are heard.

We are working towards three breakthroughs in how the world treats children by 2030:

No child dies from preventable causes before their 5th birthday,

All children learn from a quality basic education and that,

Violence against children is no longer tolerated.

We know that great people make a great organization and that our employees play a crucial role in helping us achieve our ambitions for children.  We value our people and offer a meaningful and rewarding career, along with a collaborative and inclusive environment where ambition, creativity, and integrity are highly valued.

We need to keep children safe so our selection process, which includes rigorous background checks, reflects our commitment to the protection of children from abuse.

All employees are expected to carry out their duties in accordance with our global anti-harassment policy.
