Peacebuilding Consultant

 

Project Title: Dealing with the Past - Reconciliation of the Memory of War

 

Position: Senior Peacebuilding Training & Facilitation Consultant

Sector: Peacebuilding - Women Peace and Security

Funded by: UN Women

Location: Lebanon- 6 Locations to be determined

Level of effort:

  • 7.5 intermittent training days for 35 to 40 Women Leaders (In Person)
  • 12.5 Coaching sessions for the Women leaders and Facilitator (Hybrid)
  • 20 mentoring sessions to accompany and shadow the Women Leaders (Hybrid)
  • The period might extend to 20 months
  1. Background:

 

The "Dealing with the Past and Reconciliation of the Memory of the Lebanese Civil War" project is a groundbreaking initiative led by women and funded by the United Nations Women (UNW) under the Women, Peace and Security agenda. This project acknowledges the crucial role that women play in promoting sustainable peace, acknowledging their unique perspectives and contributions in post-conflict settings

  1. Project Overview:

 

The project aims to address the complex legacy of the Lebanese Civil War, fostering a comprehensive understanding of historical events and promoting reconciliation among communities affected by the conflict. Through a gender-sensitive lens, the project seeks to empower women as key agents of change in the peacebuilding process.

 

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:

 

    1. Training on Dialogue and Facilitation Skills:

 

Design and deliver a comprehensive training program focused on enhancing the dialogue and facilitation skills of women leaders.

Tailor the training content to the unique context of Lebanon and the specific challenges associated with war memory reconciliation.

Incorporate interactive and participatory methodologies to maximize skill acquisition.

    1. Conflict Transformation and Reconciliation with the past Training:

 

Develop a training curriculum that guides women leaders in understanding the principles of conflict transformation and reconciliation.

Provide practical tools and strategies for reconciling war memories within communities, fostering empathy and understanding.

Address gender-specific aspects of reconciliation and empower women leaders as agents of positive change.

    1. Community Engagement Workshops:

 

Facilitate workshops with women leaders to apply newly acquired skills in community engagement.

Guide participants in designing and implementing reconciliation initiatives within their respective communities.

Foster a collaborative environment that encourages shared learning and best practice exchange.

    1. Mentoring and Support:

 

Provide ongoing mentoring and support to women leaders, offering guidance on overcoming challenges and maximizing the impact of their efforts.

Collaborate with project partners and local stakeholders to strengthen the support network for women leaders.

    1. Monitoring and Evaluation:

 

Feed into the monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and provide data to the M&E consultant to assess the effectiveness of the training and the impact of women leaders' initiatives on community reconciliation.

Regularly collect feedback, adjust training approaches as needed, and report on progress to project leadership.

  1. Qualifications and Skills:

 

Advanced degree in Peacebuilding, Conflict Resolution, or a related field.

Extensive experience in designing and delivering peacebuilding and reconciliation training programs, particularly in post-conflict settings.

Strong understanding of the socio-cultural context of Lebanon, with a focus on women's roles in peacebuilding.

Excellent communication, mentoring, and facilitation skills.

Demonstrated commitment to gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches.
