Peacebuilding Consultant

 

Project Title: Dealing with the Past - Reconciliation of the Memory of War

 

Position: Senior Peacebuilding mapping and conflict assessment consultant

Sector: Peacebuilding - Women Peace and Security

Funded by: UN Women

Location: Lebanon- 6 Locations to be determined

Level of effort:

  • 15 days to conduct the mapping and selection of the targeted localities

 

  1. Background:

 

The "Dealing with the Past and Reconciliation of the Memory of the Lebanese Civil War" project is a groundbreaking initiative led by women and funded by the United Nations Women (UNW) under the Women, Peace and Security agenda. This project acknowledges the crucial role that women play in promoting sustainable peace, acknowledging their unique perspectives and contributions in post-conflict settings

  1. Project Overview:

 

The project aims to address the complex legacy of the Lebanese Civil War, fostering a comprehensive understanding of historical events and promoting reconciliation among communities affected by the conflict. Through a gender-sensitive lens, the project seeks to empower women as key agents of change in the peacebuilding process.

 

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:

 

    1. Mapping Process for Project Localities:

 

Conduct an in-depth analysis of the socio-political context in Lebanon to identify potential localities suitable for project implementation.

Develop a mapping process that considers factors such as historical significance, community dynamics, and accessibility.

Collaborate with local stakeholders to validate and refine the identified localities.

 

    1. Recruitment Strategy for Women Leaders:

 

Design a comprehensive strategy for recruiting women leaders who can effectively contribute to the project's objectives.

Identify key criteria for selecting women leaders, considering diversity, representation, and commitment to peacebuilding.

Develop outreach and engagement plans to attract and involve women leaders in project activities.

 

    1. Training on Conflict Assessment:

 

Design a tailored training program to equip women leaders with the skills necessary to conduct effective conflict assessments.

Integrate elements of conflict sensitivity, gender perspectives, and inclusivity into the training curriculum.

Deliver the training sessions and provide ongoing support to ensure the application of acquired skills.

    1. Community Engagement and Consultations:

 

Facilitate community consultations in selected localities to gather input and insights for the project.

Work closely with community members to build trust, explain project goals, and address any concerns or questions.

Strategic Collaboration:

Establish partnerships with local organizations, leaders, and institutions to strengthen the project's impact.

Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to integrate the project into existing peacebuilding and reconciliation initiatives.

 

  1. Qualifications and Skills:

 

Advanced degree in Peacebuilding, International Relations, or a related field.

Proven experience in peacebuilding initiatives, conflict analysis, and community engagement, particularly in the context of Lebanon.

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

Familiarity with gender-sensitive and conflict-sensitive approaches.

 

  1. Reporting:

 

The Peacebuilding Consultant will report directly to the Project Manager.
