Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people in 70 countries who are affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.

We offer basic healthcare, carry out vaccination campaigns, and provide mental healthcare. Our activities include the treatment of injuries and disease, maternal care and the provision of humanitarian aid.

Responsibilities:

MSF is looking for Psychiatrist (Part-time) to collaborate with MSF medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services in order to insure the treatment of migrent workers patients in Beirut and surrounding areas, suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders. 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.
  • Provide training and supervision to national and international medical staff (doctors and nurses) on diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines
  • Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national psychologists and counselors
  • Ensure that guidelines and psychotropic medications from MSF standard drug list are available in the project
  • Ensure that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected in order to monitor the provision of care.
  • Evaluate in-country available psychiatric services including possibilities for psychiatric hospitalization and the quality of these services.
  • Form a relationship with MoH and exploration of sustainability of psychiatric treatment.
  • Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project in order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Emergencies: availability to support by phone call MSF team – provide prescription to psychiatric nurse for emergencies – according to MSF standards adapted to the context
  • Managing the referral for psychiatric hozpitalization, under the line manager supervision and validation
  • Managing the clinical evaluation and reassessment of post-hospitalisation patient’s
  • Providing the psychiatric component (medication and counseling) of MH follow-ups provided by the MH team, in partnership with psychologists and counselors
  • Providing visits to specific patients at community level when requested, under line manager validation
  • Participate in data collection and reporting of psychiatric activities.
  • Managing patient’s files and statistics according to MSF protocols and maintain it update.
  • Taking active part in case discussions and meetings within the project
  • Reporting to supervisor/line manager cases requesting specific validation
  • Participating in the network strategy on psychiatric care
  • Respecting patients, colleagues, line manager and the framework put in place by MSF in the project.
  • Respect the code of deontology/conduct of Mental Health caregiver.

Qualifications:

  • Education: MD degree, specialized training in psychiatry
  • Experience:  Essential working experience as a psychiatrist, desirable more than 2 years of experience as a psychiatrist

                     Experience in training and supervision
