Main responsibilities:

Under the line management of the Deputy General Coordinator / General Coordinator, the Gender Coordinator will:

 

  • Mainstreaming gender across the Lebanon team and programs.
  • Developing gender transformative and intersectional action. This involves the development of strategic partnerships with local organizations, external coordination, capacity building and technical support towards MDM’s teams and program partners.

 

 

The main responsibilities and activities of the Gender Coordinator can change depending on the evolution of the context, the work organization and the team composition.

Main activities:

1-Strategy

  • Lead the drafting of proposal for a follow-up phase of the current project.
  • Participate to the development of the general strategy.
  • Participate to the coordination meetings and decisions.
  • Participate to fundraising and representation (meetings with donors when needed).

 

2-ReCEVAL project

  • Lead the implementation of the AFD consultancy gender strategy in close collaboration with the AFD consultant(s).
  • Support the implementation of the gender Action plan for the ReCEVAL Project partners.
  • Support the Capacity building for all MdM and partners staff as advised by the AFD consultant(s).
  • Provide technical support to focal points appointed in each Community mental health and substance use center (CMH-SUC), and in partners’ organizations.

 

3-Capacity building and coaching

  • To build capacity of staff, volunteers and partners on gender (eg to community volunteers and street workers, to other frontliners on different gender topics such as gender equality, gender issues, gender and health) and GBV core concepts, screening and safe referrals.
  • To produce pre and posts tests on training/coaching provided.
  • To provide technical support to the team, including preparing gender training manuals in direct link with the Gender advisor at HQ.
  • Initiate and maintain linkages with existing and new partners on gender-related activities.
  • To support MEAL in integrating gender lens in log frame and other MEAL activities (surveys, assessment etc); as well as supporting program in integrating gender in their practices (for instance beneficiary assessment, diagnosis etc).
  • To provide inputs to MEAL and program team for research, analysis and documentation that provide evidence for gender-based programming.

 

4-To plan, implement, evaluate and monitor activities

 

  • To develop a gender analysis of the context and the activities.
  • To develop a gender strategy for the MdM program (MHPSS, PHCs and others) and support (log, HR, admin) and support its implementation.
  • To develop a clear and comprehensive action plan for gender activities in the frame of AFD 3 (Substance Use - Skoun’s activities, Embrace’s activities).
  • To formulate key gender messages and targets in MdM projects and to provide technical support to revise and develop contextualized Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of project objectives and initiatives using a gender lens, helping the staff in analyzing program implication for men, women, and non-binary individuals in the area of intervention and way to address barriers and issues.
  • To acquire information and understanding of key gender health issues in Lebanon and adapt strategy accordingly in direct link with MH and SU challenges.
  • To remain alert on policy and key players in relation to Gender issues to identify opportunities to raise awareness, advocate and influence policy change.
  • To represent MdM on gender issues forum and advocacy opportunities and link with key actors such as UNFPA, ABAAD and any other coordination bodies (including UN) With support from MdM advocacy department in HQ, to assess the feasibility of developing gender advocacy in Lebanon on key thematic of MDM.
  • To reinforce GBV screening from MdM and Partners (PHCC especially) and GBV response (clear pathway, safe identification and referral, consent etc).
  • To produce reports, briefing papers and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • To disseminate best practices to gender mainstreaming in MHPSS and substance program.
  • To organize round tables discussion and regional/national workshop related to gender & mental health, and gender & substance use.
  • To integrate gender specific questions in intake forms and community assessments and other tools.
  • To conduct participatory audits to assess gender-sensitiveness and safety of services provided at CMH-SUCs.
  • To capitalize on the way that the project permitted to implement MHPSS and SU activities with a gender approach.

Requested Profile

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in social sciences, humanities, political science or humanitarian and development studies.
  • Master’s degree in gender studies and/or public health.
  • 5 years of relevant gender related experience.
  • Gender advocacy experience is an asset.
  • Similar experience with humanitarian organizations. Experience with public health organizations is preferred.
  • Good understanding of community-based development and participatory approaches.
  • Knowledge and experience of work in the Middle-East is an asset.
  • Experience in representation with humanitarian actors, authorities and donors.
  • Proven record of knowledge and understanding of the region development and advocacy scenarios, institutions, and processes.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with all relevant multilateral institutions, civil society organizations, and related decision-making processes in Lebanon is preferred.
  • Knowledge in inclusive and gender-sensitive approach.
  • Proven ability to produce and to develop training to share and manage gender information and knowledge.
