Description:

Introduction:

The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014 that aims to expand, manage, and protect Lebanon’s forests and landscapes through a community-based approach. We work on building resilient communities to environmental threats, increasing environmental awareness and education, advocating for forest conservation, and advancing research in the forestry field.

Purpose of the position:

LRI is seeking volunteers for a critical mission to combat forest fires through proactive awareness and community engagement. Your task will involve creating effective awareness signs on a daily or weekly basis to help prevent forest fires.

As a volunteer, your journey begins by downloading the "Fire Patrol" mobile application. This app includes the essential "Firelab" tool, which you will use to monitor daily wildfire risks. Armed with this data, you will dedicate approximately two hours each day to designing and distributing digital signs that highlight the importance of fire safety and forest conservation. These signs are crucial during the wildfire season, serving as beacons of knowledge and prevention in the most vulnerable areas.

Upon joining our mission, you will receive comprehensive online training in wildfire prevention and awareness, ensuring you are well-prepared to make a meaningful impact. Additionally, you will learn how to effectively use the Fire Patrol app to maximize your contributions.

The mission will last for four months, with each month bringing a new theme, guiding you to tailor your awareness signs to reflect the most relevant and urgent messages based on the latest data.

Support and collaboration are key to our success. You will be added to a dedicated WhatsApp group where you will post your developed signs. This platform also serves as a space for ongoing support and coordination among volunteers.

Your hard work and creativity will not go unnoticed. Outstanding designs will be featured on the social media channels of the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) and TOUCH, showcasing your contribution to a wider audience.

This volunteer opportunity is not just a task; it is a chance to protect our forests and become a vital part of a community dedicated to making a difference. Join us and use your time and talents to help protect the environment for future generations.

Requirements:

Skills in social media, advertising, and graphic design will assist volunteers in creating awareness signs.

  • Have a computer and internet connection.
  • Download the Fire Patrol app.
  • Update the Fire Patrol app daily and record wildfire risk rates.
  • Create monthly awareness signs based on the themes provided at the beginning of each month.
  • Share the prepared awareness signs on social media and within the community.

Volunteer Opportunity Plan

Accepted applicants will be added to a WhatsApp group where further details and information regarding work submissions and training schedules will be provided. Training on how to use the Fire Patrol app and online sessions on wildfire management will be offered to volunteers. At the beginning of each month during the fire season, a theme will be launched (there are 4 themes). At the end of each month, awareness signs will be prepared and delivered under the approved theme. Outstanding work will be shared on social media.
