Open Call: Youth Reflections on Violence in Lebanon / From 1975 to 2025: Critical Reckoning with Violence and Youth in Lebanon

Are you a youth (under 35 years old) interested in writing about the civil war and violence in Lebanon? UMAM Documentation & Research (UMAM D&R) invites young voices from Lebanon to contribute personal reflections on their inherited and lived experiences of violence in the country. This initiative is part of a project marking 50 years since the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, fostering critical conversations on the past, present, and future of violence in Lebanon.

We are soliciting written reflections (approx. 1,000 words) in either English or Arabic. Selected contributors will receive prompts to guide their reflections on historical and contemporary violence and its impact on youth in light of April 2025 marking the 50-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Civil War. Selected contributors will also receive small compensation for their completed reflections, which will be published by UMAM D&R.

Who can apply?

All young voices engaged in the Lebanese issue: meaning any writers, researchers, activists, students, and artists, and anyone with a personal or analytical perspective on the topic who is 35 years old or younger.
