Project proposal writer and Research Assistant Job Description ROLE PURPOSE: The primary function of this role is to develop and to produce high quality and implementable proposals in accordance with JUSTICIA’s strategic planning, and to support legal and humanitarian researches. This role reports to the Project Director, and works in close collaboration with the Chairman and the rest of the board members, in addition to the consultant and administrative teams, as well as donors. In the event of major humanitarian needs, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. JUSTICIA is a nonprofit civil association that provides advice to governmental and non-governmental organizations. In addition, JUSTICIA conducts researches, prepares studies, and publishes a variety of subjects. It also designs and implements programs that further democratic values and human rights. Goals: 1- Promote the rule of Law in Lebanon and the Arab Countries. 2- Increase access to justice by working to improve the legal system and providing rights education. 3- Advocate for reforms that eradicate corruption, result in the government becoming more transparent and increase civil liberties. 4- Encourage positive relations between Muslims and Christians and work to advance the rights of women under the personal status law. 5- Improve the relationship between citizens and the government. 6- Support the efforts of governmental and non-governmental organizations to advance human rights. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Project Director COMPETENCIES: Project Proposal writer skills • Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, and writing, revising, and editing drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials, following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone. • Gathers proposal information by identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals. • Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key management. • Exploring opportunities to apply to funds based on organization goals. • Submit and respond to feedback on proposals from donors. • Examine donor strategy, ensuring that donors are appropriately targeted for funding opportunities. • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs; and develops requests for proposal (RFPs). • Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval; entering and monitoring tracking data. • Sets ambitious, motivated and challenging goals for the organization Research assistant skills • Collects needed data (soft and other forms of research) • Conducts primary analysis • Prepares materials for the study research workflow • Conducts interviews and maintain accurate records of interviews • Summarizes interviews • Attends related project meetings and other events • Prepares progress reports COLLABORATION • Highly motivated • Future orientated, thinks strategically and on a global scale • Approachable, good listener, easy to talk to • Flexible and innovative • Writing skills QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s Degree in social or legal sciences, project management, or any related field • Strong written and oral communication skills; • Programme design skills, including capacity to prepare logical, coherent, and consistent documents including logframes and budgets; • Excellent organizational skills; • Ability to analyze and summarize information; • Willingness and ability to travel to the field to conduct assessments and gather primary data; • Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic; • Commitment to and understanding of JUSTICIA’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches. • Prior demonstrated experience with civil society is highly desirable Experience required: • Minimum 2 to 3 years Cover letter required?
