IOM Lebanon Emergency Response - Update #7 (1-12 January 2025)
Situation Overview
Since the announcement of a cessation of hostilities on 27 November 2024, more than 868,947 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have begun returning to their communities as of 8 January. However, despite the ceasefire, more than 115,000 IDPs remain in Lebanon, marking an 87% decrease from pre-ceasefire figures. Of the 115,439 individuals remaining in displacement 3,769 are registered in 39 collective sites, mostly schools or other public or private spaces, while decommissioning assessments and works have begun to return prior collective sites to their original purpose. IOM is closely monitoring mobility trends, assessing the evolving context, and continuing to address the immediate humanitarian needs of those affected by the conflict, including returning IDPs.
In support of the government-led emergency response, the humanitarian community has extended the Interagency Flash Appeal for an additional three months (from January to March 2025) seeking USD 371 million and aiming to assist 1 million people through the delivery of urgent life-saving assistance and protection, especially through the winter months. As part of this extended Flash Appeal, IOM is appealing for funds to support ongoing and urgent lifesaving assistance in the areas of shelter, basic needs, health, protection, site management and coordination, and the Displacement Tracking Matrix.
