Job Purpose

The post holder will work primarily on a project supporting social stability activities in public schools. As part of a consortium with three other organisations, International Alert’s role is to conduct context analysis in the target communities, advise partners on how to improve the project’s impact on social cohesion, support the implementation of social cohesion activities and monitor the results related to social cohesion in and around schools. The post holder will be the lead in the relationship International Alert has with the Partners’ field teams in and around the 4 schools in Beirut and Mount Lebanon and 2 schools in Tripoli.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating and implementing Alert’s project activities and events in Beirut and Mount Lebanon and in Tripoli. She/he will coordinate project activities and undertake all logistical preparations required for the proper implementation of activities, including coordination with trainers and consultants. The post holder will also collect data as part of the monitoring of the social cohesion activities, support in research and focus groups conducted in the selected areas. The role of the post holder is to maintain and consolidate Alert’s relations with partners and school staff, as well as relevant local stakeholders, authorities and influential people. She/he will work closely with the Project Manager and the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team who will provide content-based support and supervision. She/he will also collaborate with the field coordinator who work in the Bekaa and the Senior Advisor on the action research for consolidating monitoring and research data and analysis and support reporting purposes on the same project.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Project Coordination
  • Responsible for monitoring the implementation of activities by Alerts’ standards and collect monitoring data using the developed M&E tools;
  • Work closely with project partners and local actors in the selected areas in order to ensure proper coordination and implementation of social cohesion activities;
  • Support in research and focus group efforts and collection of quantitative/ qualitative data;
  • Take the lead on all required logistical preparations for the different activities.
  • Provide support, coaching and mentoring on social stability, Do No Harm and conflict sensitivity issues to the field staff of partner organisations working in the same schools;
  • Support facilitation of training with partners on peacebuilding, conflict sensitivity and social stability in education programming;
  • Maintain positive relationships and regularly update relevant authorities and local actors about the project’s progress;
  • Stay abreast with socio-political developments in Beirut and Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, especially those related to education;
  • Document Alert’s activities for communication purposes;

 

  1. Project design, monitoring and evaluation
  • Collect and capture relevant information discussed during social cohesion activities;
  • Identify risks, challenges and extract lessons learned based on the close interaction with people from the targeted communities;
  • Support on feeding in the monitoring and evaluation templates and reports;
  • Assist in preparing donor reports and project completion reports, including financial reports;
  • Contribute and develop ideas for new projects, building upon the impact achieved by existing projects;
  • Disseminate findings of evaluations and ongoing monitoring and lessons learned internally and externally;
  • Represent Alert in relevant coordination meetings and advocacy events;
  • Report to the Project Manager and work closely with the Design Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (DMEL) staff based in Beirut.

 

  1. Contributing to Alert’s organisational processes and strategies
  • Represent Alert’s values and ideas;
  • Contribute to Alert’s internal context updates and planning of new projects;
  • Contribute to Alert’s programming through support with proposals design, publications revision, and correspondence with influencers and decision-makers in the community;
  • Contribute to organisation-wide learning and exchange on the value of social cohesion in education programming;
  • Contribute to team-wide communications and knowledge management, and participate in organisation-wide events and discussions on related topics;
  •  Support learning and reflection activities for the Lebanon programme in coordination with the DMEL staff;
  • Any other task relevant to the position.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

The ideal candidate:

Has a BA or equivalent in education, social and political sciences, human rights, or other relevant disciplines.

Has minimum 3 years of relevant experience working with a development organisation, including significant experience working at field level.

Has good knowledge of Lebanese politics and understanding of the political and social context of Beirut and Mount Lebanon and/or Tripoli.

Is fluent in Arabic and English; excellent communication skills in Arabic are a must,

Is willing to travel between Beirut and Tripoli on a weekly basis.

Is able to influence and motivate others by making their case.

Demonstrates the ability to take initiative.

Understands or has the ability to understand quickly Alert’s approach to peacebuilding.

Gets on well with people of diverse backgrounds and in diverse roles.

Is computer literate.

Has excellent inter-personal, communication and presentation skills.

Has skills and experience in projects implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Has proven knowledge and understanding of programme cycle management, information management and reporting.

Has strong analytical skills and is interested in knowing more about M&E.

Has a clear commitment to the mission and vision of International Alert.
