Attacks on Health Care in Lebanon: 13-26 November 2024

Insecurity Insight identified 305 incidents of violence against or obstruction of health care in Lebanon between 08 October 2023 and 18 November 2024. In these incidents, at least 241 health workers were killed, 200 injured and health facilities damaged 158 times. All of these reported 305 incidents were attributed to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Of the 174 health workers killed, 105 were killed while working inside health facilities that were bombed by Israeli forces. At least 12 health workers were killed in “double-tap” attacks while responding to victims of previous Israeli bombings.

Incidents were recorded in six of Lebanon’s nine governorates with high numbers documented in Nabatieh governorate, particularly in Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun and Nabatieh districts and South governorate’s Tyre district.

16 November 2024: In Burj Rahhal town, Tyre district, South governorate, an al-Risala Scout Association paramedic was killed by Israeli airstrikes while trying to rescue an injured person. Source: Megaphone News

16 November 2024: In Kfar Tebnit village, Nabatieh governorate, a paramedic was killed and four others injured when an Islamic Health Authority vehicle was hit by an Israeli airstrike. Source: Megaphone News

17 November 2024: In Hadath area, Baabda district, Mount Lebanon governorate, Saint-George Hospital was damaged after Israeli airstrikes hit the building next door in the morning. Israeli forces had issued evacuation orders of the area less than two hours prior to the attack. Source: Megaphone

23 November 2024: In Tyre district, South governorate, an ambulance on its way to Ain Baal town to conduct a rescue mission was hit by an Israeli armed drone. A second team then headed to the scene to rescue the injured members of the first team, but the drone reportedly pursued their vehicle and directly targeted it directly, killing two paramedics and injuring four from both teams. An al-Risala Scouts Association ambulance team was able to pull out the injured after an Israeli drone hit the road they were on. Source: Megaphone
