Humanitarian Demining In North Lebanon

Since 2010, Handicap International is engaged through their Mine Action Department with humanitarian demining activities, under the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC) supervision, in the region of Batroun, and based out of Toula School. Two demining teams are deployed in the impacted communities in North Lebanon Province, and conducting manual clearance operations.

Overall Objectives: 
To mitigate the threat of mines and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in the high impacted communities of the North Lebanon and Mount Lebanon provinces according to the needs and priorities identified in the strategic planning of the LMAC. To improve the quality of life of mine affected populations by creating favourable conditions for socio-economic development in Northern Lebanon.
Activities: 
Mine clearance to mitigate the threat of mines and to support the LMAC in achieving its goal of making Lebanon mine impact free by 2020.
