Overview of FR and the Project
Frontiers Ruwad is a non-profit and apolitical NGO that aims at enhancing the human rights of marginalized groups in Lebanon. Its main programs focus on forced migration and statelessness.
There are estimated to be tens of thousands of stateless persons in Lebanon who do not hold any nationality.  The causes of statelessness are multiple and vary between historical roots and administrative practice. One significant cause is failure to access birth registration procedures.
The objective of the project is to improve access to birth registration and to birth documentation thereby preventing statelessness and protecting children.  The project has three components: Capacity Building, Campaign and Legal Aid. The Capacity Building component will sensitize those involved in the birth registration procedure as to the importance of birth registration and its links to nationality and statelessness. The Campaign will raise the general public and mainly the people who are at risk of statelessness on the importance of the birth registration. The Legal Aid component will provide legal advice and representation to stateless persons relating to the right to documentation and nationality.
