The European Centre for Democracy & Human Rights (ECDHR) is a non-profit organization that seeks to foster awareness of and support for democracy and human rights in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the Arabian Gulf by advocating for the rights of GCC to key actors within the international community and general public. ECDHR is registered in Dublin, Ireland and maintains offices in Brussels, Belgium and Beirut, Lebanon.
ECDHR seeks a dynamic and experienced research associate for its Beirut office ready to help plan and design advocacy strategies that advance support for human rights in the GCC. This position reports to the Executive Director and Director of Advocacy.

Responsibilities:
 
Outreach to the NGO and Think Tank Community/U.S. Government

Research and report on pertinent international developments relating to the GCC and Saudi Arabia, including writing reports on human-rights related subjects in the region;
Track international actions, especially related to the UN and other international governmental bodies, pertaining to the Gulf region;
Prepare talking points, written testimony, fact sheets, and other background materials for engagement with the international governmental entities;
Attend relevant events to keep up with the latest policy developments and to represent ECDHR's interests;
Monitor human rights abuses and other developments in the Arabian Gulf, particularly as they relate to ECDHR’s advocacy and government affairs outreach.

 
Project Management

Develop and execute coordinated NGO advocacy campaigns addressing human rights and policy issues in the Arabian Gulf;
Research, analyze, and synthesize information and data about the human rights situation in the GCC to accurately document violations and develop advocacy initiatives;
Research and author reports, white papers, briefing memos, letters, and other advocacy materials.
Translate relevant materials from English to Arabic or vise versa.

 
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities, but may be asked to supervise interns from time to time.

 
Qualifications and Skills:

1-3 years of prior experience working for an NGO or in the human rights field in a research capacity;
MA in international relations, international law, public policy, or related field;
Demonstrated experience with online advocacy, research, and report writing;
A proven track record of strong project management, including planning and in some cases implementing advocacy strategies;
Ability to prioritize, implement and deliver high-quality advocacy programs, sometimes within tight timelines and with minimal supervision;
Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative working environment;
knowledge and understanding of the Gulf region, Saudi Arabia, and human rights;
Fluency in English, Arabic, and French required
