Part Time Sustainable Agriculture Trainer & Mentor

DCA Lebanon as part of its 2023-2027 Strategy is piloting its support to the agricultural sector in South and Mount Lebanon through supporting farmers, specifically those whose lands were impacted by mines and cluster munitions, to adopt sustainable and agroecological approaches. Based on this, DCA is working on implementing two projects “Hazard to Harvest” and “Road to Sustainable Food Production”.

 

Contract Purpose & Expected Results

 

Overall Objective:

The primary objective of this position is to support sustainable agricultural practices by facilitating effective communication between farmers and the organization, conducting regular visits to farmers in the South to Mount Lebanon region, and providing timely reporting on field activities.

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to ensure seamless communication between farmers and the organization, gather relevant information on farming practices and challenges, and provide mentorship and training to enhance agricultural sustainability. Additionally, the Sustainable Agriculture Trainer and Mentor will support the logistical aspects of on-site visits and ensure adherence to schedules.

 

Results to be achieved by the Contractor:

The aim of this assignment is to support sustainable agricultural practices in the Kfar Silwan and Bmuhray Villages.

 

Scope of the services

  1. Facilitate effective communication between farmers and the organization to ensure smooth coordination.
  2. Maintain regular communication with the supervisor and relevant team members through email or other channels as needed.
  3. Participate in periodic team meetings, whether in-person or virtually, to stay updated on project progress and discuss strategies.
  4. Conduct routine visits to farmers in the South to Mount Lebanon region to provide support and gather information.
  5. Schedule and confirm appointments with farmers for on-site visits via phone to ensure timely engagements.
  6. Collect pertinent data on farming practices, challenges, and needs to inform decision-making and program development.
  7. Utilize farming background to establish rapport and engage effectively with farmers during interactions.
  8. Provide timely and accurate reports on field activities to document progress and outcomes.
  9. Utilize email communication for regular updates and reporting purposes, ensuring effective dissemination of information.
  10. Ensure that all farmers receive appropriate compensation for their participation in activities.
  11. Prepare necessary materials for site visits to facilitate logistical arrangements and enhance efficiency.
  12. Adhere to session schedules, providing timely reminders and managing breaks to optimize productivity.
  13. Ensure punctuality of trainers by confirming their arrival on time for scheduled sessions.
  14. Conduct thorough testing of all technical equipment, including projectors and speakers, to guarantee functionality and smooth operation.

 

Timing, Logistics, & Facilities

The contract starts at March 1, 2024, till December 31,2024.

The contractor will be based in Kfar Silwan and Bmuhray Villages.

 

Reporting

The Contractor shall submit a task sheet that mentions the days worked during the month and description of the tasks done in English, in addition to a monthly report updating the Contracting Authority on the activities, challenges, and contract progress. The reports are to be sent digitally to the project co-lead which will revise them and share them with the Head of Program.

 

Qualification Requirements

  • Proven experience in agricultural training and mentoring roles, preferably in the South to Mount Lebanon region.
  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate effective interaction between farmers and the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage scheduling and appointments for on-site visits.
  • Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and their implementation in diverse farming contexts.
  • Ability to utilize farming background to engage effectively with farmers and address their needs.
  • Proficiency in email communication and reporting for regular updates and documentation of field activities.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all farmers receive compensation and logistical arrangements for site visits are well-prepared.
  • Punctuality and reliability to ensure timely arrival at training sessions and thorough testing of technical equipment for smooth operations.
