Report mapping Palestinian emergent actors

  1. Project and Services to be Provided

With the political and economic crisis in Lebanon, CSI will be working through the year 2022 with political and social movement actors to create a process for diffusion of tensions and developing ideas to strengthen good governance. The crisis has aggrevated the livelihoods of Palestinians in Lebanon and renewed the need for the Lebanese Paletinian Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to advise policies  regarding their status, especially given the Deal of the Century and the diversion of Lebanese elite attention to other priorities.

Building on CSI’s experience to foster safe spaces for dialogue, the dialogue between the Lebanese and Palestinian stakeholders will be renewed to discuss the repercussions of the complex crisis on Palestinian refugees’ livelhoods in Lebanon and the needs and way forward to include them in the labor market and provide them with rights.

  1. Objective of the study/ mapping

This study consists of a mapping of recent popular movements and young activists’ groups in Palestinian camps and gatherings in Lebanon. CSI is commissioning this study within the framework of its Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Forum.

The objectives of this study/ mapping are to have:

  • A better understanding of the present work mosaic on the popular level in Palestinian camps and gatherings across Lebanon will give us a better understanding of the functionality of these groups and movements and will pinpoint cons, pros, strengths, and weaknesses for potential future interventions.
  • An addition to the few existing literature considering that little has been done on the issue since previous mappings or studies have mainly focused on the main and traditional players in the camps {NGOs, popular committees, factions, PLO/PNA and UNRWA} and not on the grassroots level.
  • Better grasp of the emerging Palestinian activists or groups that LPDF can collaborate and partner with, in the future.
  1. Deliverables:

The expected deliverables are:

  • a methodology to be submitted 2 weeks from the date of signature of the agreement. The methodology should identify the number of investigated individuals or groups and specify the sources of information used in the study.
  • draft of the study
  • final draft of the study
  • If possible, share the contact details of the mapped individuals and entities
