The Centre for Lebanese Studies at the Lebanese American University in partnership with Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, Population Europe/Max-Planck-Institut für demografische Forschung (PE), Catholic University of Louvain, Martin Luther University of Halle Wittenberg, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Institutt for Samfunnsforskning (ISF) (Institute for Social Research) in Norway, a Canadian Consortium (the University of Ottawa (uOttawa-ISS), McGill University,  and York University have been awarded Horizon 2020 grant to examine how protection seekers experience their vulnerabilities and how these experiences are continuously shaped and produced in interaction with the legal and policy frameworks and implementation practices of the relevant decision-makers. The project entitled “How does the law asses, address, shape and produce vulnerabilities of the protection seeks”is lead by Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology.

The Centre for Lebanese Studies is recruiting a senior researcher to work on the project.  

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead the implementation of the research activities of the project.
  • Conduct literature reviews and contribute to academic publications.
  • Manage and lead the junior researchers who will support with the data collection. , research assistants, and interns).
  • Design with the director the research instruments, collect and analyse the data.
  • Design and implement research methodologies, protocols, and quantitative and qualitative instruments;
  • Design safety procedures; adapt new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures.
  • Oversee the IRB application and ensures that all team members adhere to the highest standards to ethical guidelines.
  • Collect data, summarizes findings and publishes results in peer-reviewed research journals;
  • Oversee project budgets and liaises closely with the finance department and officers.
  • Oversee the media plan and liaises closely with the media and communication department and manager
  • Communicate with members  of the project consortium

 

Other responsibilities

  • Establishes connections and strengthens CLS relations with other academic and research Centres.
  • Present at academic conferences
  • Represent the centre in meetings, workshops and conferences in Lebanon and abroad.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Masters’ degree in a field of law in particular international law and human rights is desirable. Applicants with a speciality in refugee studies.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a research environment.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English
  • A record of previous academic publications and reports.
