1. Purpose

CARE established its presence in Lebanon in 2006 and has been responding to the Syrian Crisis since late 2012. Among CARE’s key imperatives is putting people it serves first through implementing cutting edge programming in areas it operates. CARE currently carries out activities in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Akkar, North Lebanon, South Lebanon, and the Beqaa Valley. CARE implements both emergency and development projects contributing to livelihood, food security, protection, gender, shelter, and water, sanitation and hygiene. It targets the most vulnerable people and populations, both host communities and refugees. Over the course of 7 years, it has supported over than half a million beneficiaries.

In Lebanon, CARE’s program strategy for the upcoming years will focus on strengthening and expanding its emergency response and capacity to provide basic assistance services while pursuing development projects in areas of food security and livelihood support, gender and protection. CARE intends to maintain its presence in all areas of Lebanon.

CARE Lebanon has scaled up rapidly over the past few years and today it has about 90 staff members, with more than 15 different local/international partner organizations. 90% of the team is composed of national staff, with a symbolic number of international members.

3. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides reliable and secure driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel.
  • Meets official personnel and visitors at the airport.
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, transportation / vehicle related expenditures, vehicle servicing, repairs, etc.
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); checks oil, water, battery, tires, etc.; performs minor repairs and timely arrange for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times; maintain the vehicle(s) in clean conditions.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
  • Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident; ensure that in this case all organizational and local / country rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly.
  • Provide logistic support for project activities as may be required.
  • Coordinate daily with the line manager.
  • Attend the team meeting when it is required.
  • Emergency Transport: Safely transport staff and emergency supplies to various locations as required during crises or urgent situations.
  • Flexible Availability: Be on call to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as emergencies may arise at any time.
  • High-Risk Area Operations: Navigate and operate in high-risk areas with a thorough understanding of safety protocols.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct regular checks and maintenance on the vehicle to ensure it is safe and ready for immediate use.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with the operations team regarding travel plans, safety concerns, and logistical support.
  • Documentation: Ensure proper documentation of travel logs, incident reports, and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Support Team Operations: Assist other team members as needed during emergency response efforts.

5. Qualifications / special skills or knowledge

a. Skills & knowledge:

  • Proven experience as a driver, preferably in an NGO or emergency response setting.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate vehicles in challenging and high-risk environments.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of North Lebanon routes, particularly in areas such as Akkar, ensuring the most efficient and timely travel for all trips.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard hours as needed.
  • Familiarity with the geographical and cultural landscape of Lebanon is an asset.

b. Experience:

At least   1-3  years of relevant experience, especially at NGOs, academic organizations, standard-setting bodies, public agencies focused on Logistics.

c. Academic background:

High School

d. Languages:

English and/ or Arabic are the working language of CARE International in Lebanon. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

Benefits: Social security/Health Insurance & Transport allowance.

The direct supervisor reserves the right to adapt this job description at any time during employment according to needs.  Any extension of this contract is dependent on performance review and funding availability.
