 Mission 1: Cultural Programming

He/she is a permanent member of the ASSABIL Cultural Activity Committee (ACAC) responsible for brainstorming, planning and setting the overall program strategies of cultural activities taking place online, in the libraries, or outside the libraries.  

The activity program to be developed and implemented includes but not limited to the following activities:

Program of regular cultural activities, such as ….

  • Program of ‘Clubs’ at the libraries: Debate Clubs, Reading Clubs, Writing Clubs…
  • Program for the National Reading Week
  • Yearly Book bazar

Mission 2: implementation of ASSABIL ACTIVITY Program

Under the supervision of BLC, the CAC is in charge of executing the cultural activity programs approved by the ACAC. This position will coordinate with the BLC and the Financial Officer for all matters concerning the expenditures for the activities.

The CAC will coordinate with the librarians of the Beirut Libraries in the overall planning and execution of each library’s activity program (definition of target groups, type of activities, timing of activities, location, equipment, etc.).

The CAC will coordinate closely with the Communication officer on the communication before and after each activity.

The CAC requires establishing relationships with cultural actors in Lebanon and abroad, and being in contact with other associations and cultural centers in order to benefit from their experiences and to discover good practices in the cultural field.

Mission 3: Evaluation and reporting on ASSABIL activity Program

The CAC will document the activity programs that have been executed in each library, including dates, general statistics, topics etc. A monthly report has to be submitted to the BLC.

The committee will also convene to evaluate accomplished activities, and from there define ‘lessons learnt’ for future actions, and will document ‘best practices’ and ‘things not to be repeated’ that can be integrated in the reflection on future activities.

Mission 3: Assistance in Libraries operations

He/she will assist in library operations such as: circulation, cataloguing, acquisition and will assist the BLC in managerial activities.

Working hours:

The full time position requires 40 working hours weekly, 5 days a week distributed over the three libraries and the main office. The schedule is flexible depending on libraries opening hours and the activities time and duration. .

This position is registered with the NSSF.

Skills and abilities

  • Excellent spoken and written skills in Arabic & English. A minimum of French is required.
  • Knowledge of the artistic and cultural scene in Lebanon and the Arab region.
  • Great verbal communication skills and approachability
  • Good computer skills
  • Team work abilities
  • Strong motivation for ASSABIL’s mission and for cultural mediation
