Call for director

The Arab Image Foundation in Beirut, Lebanon is seeking applications for the position of director to begin 1 September 2022. 

Over the next three years, the AIF will build on its strengthened institutional practices and focus on enriching its collections through research and by expanding its digital infrastructure.

Responsibilities
The director is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s team, day-to-day functioning, finances and programming as part of the AIF’s long-term vision. The director balances fundraising, reporting, as well as administrative work, legal matters, and human resources. Additionally, the director is responsible for building and maintaining the AIF’s organisational relationships with partners, donors and the public while also seeing through rigorous and thoughtful research-based programmes. 

The director reports to the Board of Directors, which reports to the Association’s General Assembly. The position is full-time, an initial 3-year term and renewable and is based in Beirut, Lebanon and cannot be conducted remotely.

Profile and qualifications
Significant managerial and leadership experience in cultural or arts organisations is required. Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as capacity of developing and implementing collective work processes. The ideal candidate will have a research-based practice and experience in educational settings and preferably in the field of photography and archival practices. The position requires familiarity with the Middle East and North Africa and an understanding of the local political and financial challenges. Fluency in Arabic and English is necessary.

As the foundation shifts its focus to digital environments, familiarity with digital technology and its ethical and cultural aspects will be helpful. The candidate is creative, experienced and enthusiastic, to work hand in hand with the Board of Directors and the team, to lead and steer the organisation. They also interface with the General Assembly’s members and contribute to involving them in the programs and overall vision of the organisation.
