The ASP is a union for journalists and media workers in Lebanon, which emerged from the 17th of October Uprising, demanding a secular system based on the principles of social justice and public liberties, foremost of which is the freedom of the press. The ASP was founded as a result to the absence of union work protecting journalists, whether through protecting their rights in the workplace, during their work and coverage specifically in the demonstrations and confrontations with the security forces and the state’s thugs, or through protecting them from prosecution by the political authority because of their expression of opinion or their work in uncovering corruption and exploitative measures.
