Improving the timely access, availability and utilization of multi-sectoral services to the vulnerable and conflict affected women, girls and, men and boys to strengthen copping mechanism and live a dignified life in Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tumbura

The proposed intervention by Advance Africa Initiative will be focused on “improving the timely access, availability and utilization of multi-sectoral services to the vulnerable and conflict affected women, girls and, men and boys to strengthen copping mechanism and live a dignified life in Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tumbura counties of Western Equatoria State”. The Gender Based Violence and Child Protection project shall be targeting 43,303 vulnerable IDPs, refugees and host communities in Western Equatoria state to reduce the suffering of women, girls, men and boys. Training of Health care providers on Clinical Management of Rape (CMR) will be conducted to respond to reported cases of rape; construction of women centre to enable women to get together and discuss issues affecting them and use the centre as a place to conduct their Income Generating Activities (IGAs) and get psychosocial support and informal education on numerals; dignity kits will be distributed to 10% according to UN OCHA population per State of the vulnerable women and girls of reproductive age; solar lamps will be will be bought and distributed to the identified women and young mothers where their security is deemed threatened at night; IGAs training will be conducted to women, girls, men and boys on the basic business skills to help enhance their coping mechanism. Training members of the community on psychosocial support and rights of women and children will be there to support SGBV survivors and issues affecting women and children in the community through Community based approaches, therefore the trained frontline service providers will be able to respond and offer psychosocial support to SGBV survivors, unaccompanied and separated children will be gathered for by the community through identification of caregivers within the community in line with survivor centred approaches and using the existing referral pathways. Identified unaccompanied and separated children will be registered and tracing, follow up and reunification will be arranged through the support of Child Protection Sub-Cluster and other actors. SGBV survivors will be supported through service accessibility and livelihood project. Gender Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS) will be used to inform actors on the different types of GBV occurring in the community and it will help in future GBV programming.

 

The number of indirect beneficiaries is 43,303, this are among the elderly, and the most marginalized. According to South Sudan statistical year book for 2010, the population in Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tumbura counties altogether is 481,155. ADAFIN will work in 8 Payams targeting 30% with the population of (144,346), out this number ADAFIN is directly targeting 30% (43,303) of the total population in Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tumbura counties. The most people targeted are IDPs, refugees, returnees (30% - 12,991) and the host communities (70% - 30,313).

Overall Objectives: 
Overall Project Objective: This project is aiming at providing timely protection response and prevention services to reach 43,303 beneficiaries (70% - 30,312 women, 4.6% - 2,000 men, 18% - 8,000 girls and 7% -2,991 boys) and conflict affected populations, including unaccompanied, separated and missing children, women survivors of GBV and, other vulnerable men and women to live a dignified life in Western Equatoria state by the end of 2021.
Activities: 
OUTCOME 1 SURVIVORS OF GBV DEVELOP RESILIENCE AND CONFIDENCE TO SEEK SERVICES AT THE SERVICES PROVIDERS IN THE COMMUNITY. Output 1.1 30 (15 females and 15 men) health care providers demonstrate increased knowledge on CMR and survivor centered approaches in supporting the SGBV survivors. Health care providers will be trained on CMR by ADAFIN Health Advisor on CMR. Activity 1.1.1 Request 8,000 dignity kits from UNFPA to be prepositioned and distributed to vulnerable women and girls in reproductive age (15 – 49 years) in the target areas to uphold dignity in the community and facilitate their access to social services. According to statistical year book of 2010, the number of women targeted for distribution of dignity kits are 8,000, 2,000 dignity kits will be distributed in every Payam: … Activity 1.1.2 Train medical staff on CMR and survivor centered approach. Activity 1.1.3 Identify, rehabilitate 1, construct 3, maintain 3 existing women centers to up scale the weekly groups psychosocial activities (bead work and bed sheets of flower decorations and coffee making) among GBV survivors and other vulnerable women and girls in Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tumbura counties. Activity 1.1.4 Secure, transport, distribute dignity kits to 48% of women and girls in reproductive age (15 – 29 years) in 8 Payams of WES to up hold dignity in the community and to facilitate their access to social services and also work closely with WASH partners on ground. Activity 1.1.5. Procure, transport and distribute solar lamps to the most vulnerable women and girls with special needs to mitigate protection risks. Activity 1.1.6 Recruitment of staff in the field and training them on SEA, women and children rights, psychosocial support using Minimum Standards of Child Protection and GBV, signing of code of conduct and use of Do No Harm principals. Output 1.2 180 (80 women and 100 men) frontline service providers (police, judiciary, customer courts and community support teams) trained on survivor centered approaches and basic psychosocial support. Activity 1.2.1 Establish community based mechanisms to provide protection assistance and psychosocial support to children and adults affected by conflict. ADAFIN will engage community to identify qualified community members who will be trained on survivor centered approach and basic psychosocial support for timely response to SGBV survivors, unaccompanied and separated children within the community. Activity 1.2.2 Train frontline service providers (case managers, police, customer court staff, community leaders and community support teams) on GBV, referral pathways, survivor centered approaches and psychosocial first aid. Frontline service providers will be training for effective response and support to survivors of SGBV and enhance proper coordination in support to the survivor needs. Output 1.3 16 (10 males, 6 women) case managers demonstrate increased knowledge on psychosocial support and understand the GBV and Child Protection Minimum Standards applied during emergency. Activity 1.3.1 Training of 16 case managers who will respond to the needs of women and children. OUTCOME 2: UNACCOMPANIED AND SEPARATED CHILDREN RECEIVE PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT AND PROTECTION SERVICES THROUGH ADAFIN CASE MANAGERS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUPS AS THEY WAIT FOR TRACING AND REUNIFICATION OF FAMILY MEMBERS. Output 2.1 4 community based mechanisms established to provide protection assistance and psychosocial support to unaccompanied and separated children and adults of missing children. Activity 2.1.1 Establish community based mechanisms to provide protection assistance and psychosocial support to children and adults affected by conflict and SGBV. Activity 2.1.2 Provide psychosocial support to SGBV survivors and children using the appropriate case management tools, make appropriate referrals and documentation using GBVIMS and CPIMS. Activity 2.1.3 Provide children with psychosocial activities in CFS to promote self-protection to prevent GBV and mitigate family separation. Output 2.2 4 special protection teams demonstrate community based psychosocial support to survivors of SGGBV and boys and girls affected by conflict. Activity 2.2.1 Provide children with psychosocial activities in CFS to promote self-protection to prevent GBV and mitigate family separation. OUTCOME 3 STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITIES OF WOMEN, MEN, WOMEN AND GIRLS TO INCREASE THEIR COPING MECHANISMS THROUGH LIVELIHOOD ACTIVITIES. Output 3.1 510 (350 women, 120 men, 20 boys and 20 girls) people benefit from the livelihood programs, opportunities and skills (savings and loans schemes) that demonstrate increased business skills and exercise positive coping mechanisms with the affected communities. Activity 3.1.1 Provide business skills, and opportunities to people affected with conflict through livelihood programs (savings and loans schemes) to exercise positive coping mechanisms within the affected communities of Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tumbura. The activity will be monitored by County Protection Officer with support from the Case Managers. Activity 3.1.2 Conduct an assessment with the youth to identify their needs and plan together with them in areas of (bread making, soap making, shoe making, tailoring) and determine which programs they are interested to participate in.
Results:

RESULT 2: UNACCOMPANIED AND SEPARATED CHILDREN RECEIVE PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT AND PROTECTION SERVICES THROUGH ADAFIN CASE MANAGERS AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUPS AS THEY WAIT FOR TRACING AND REUNIFICATION OF FAMILY MEMBERS. RESULT 3: STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITIES OF WOMEN, MEN, WOMEN AND GIRLS TO INCREASE THEIR COPING MECHANISMS THROUGH LIVELIHOOD ACTIVITIES.
