Call for Marketing Consultant - Food Systems Challenge

Context & Background

Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.

About FSC PROJECT

The Food System Challenge supports businesses to solve core challenges of the food system in Lebanon, and more specifically in the sectors of dairy and meat production (cow, goat, sheep), cereals and pulses (and its by-products), protected horticulture (Classical green houses, hydroponics, and aquaponics), and domesticated edible herbs and plants.

The Food System Challenge is implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Berytech through support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Throughout FSC’s previous and current cycles, the program supported over 40 SMEs to fortify the Lebanese food system to create a more sustainable ecosystem.

Beneficiary background

Jawalco is a distribution company operating in the Bekaa region of Lebanon, specializing in the warehousing, distribution, and sales of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) such as Aruba and Ghandour brands. As Jawalco seeks to expand its market presence and increase its competitive advantage in the FMCG distribution sector, the company recognizes the need for a robust marketing and business development strategy. This strategy will aim to enhance brand recognition, attract new clients, and explore new market opportunities.

Given the dynamic nature of the FMCG market in Lebanon, particularly in the Bekaa region, Jawalco aims to position itself as a leading distributor through innovative marketing approaches and strategic business development initiatives.

Objective

The objective of this consultancy is to:

  1. Develop a comprehensive marketing strategy to increase brand visibility and market share.
  2. Enhance customer engagement through targeted marketing campaigns.
  3. Strengthen relationships with existing clients and partners.
  4. Improve sales performance and profitability.

Scope of work:

The consultant will be required to deliver the following services:

  1. Phase 1: Market Research and Analysis
    • Conduct a SWOT analysis of Jawalco.
    • Analyze current market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities.
    • Identify target markets and customer segments for growth.
  2. Phase 2: Marketing Strategy Development
    • Develop a branding strategy including logo, tagline, and messaging.
    • Create a digital marketing plan encompassing website development, social media, and online advertising.
    • Propose traditional marketing activities such as print media, events, and promotions.
    • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure marketing effectiveness.
  3. Phase 3: Implementation Support and Training
    • Assist in the initial rollout of marketing campaigns.
    • Provide training to Jawalco's marketing and sales teams on strategy execution.
    • Set up monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track progress and adjust strategies.

** The consultant must handle all marketing activities during the designated period, this includes advertising, printing, and handling all social media activities including content creation.

Duration

The consultancy is expected to span 5 months, with specific on-site days to be agreed upon based on project milestones and progress.

Key Deliverables

  • Market Research Report with findings and recommendations.
  • Comprehensive Marketing Strategy Document detailing proposed activities and timelines.
  • Business Development Plan outlining strategies for growth.
  • Branding Guidelines including visual identity elements.
  • Training Materials and records of sessions conducted.
  • Implementation Roadmap with actionable steps.

Qualifications:

The selected consultant should have:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing and business development, preferably in the FMCG sector.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing marketing strategies that resulted in business growth.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing tools and current market trends.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and training skills.
  • Familiarity with the Lebanese market, especially the Bekaa region.

 

How to apply

The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities soon after selection; the exact timeline and effective working days are to be set based on both company’s and the Consultant’s availabilities. The total budget for the intervention is between $5,000 and $6,000.

Candidates should submit the following documents.

  • Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, Duration, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
  • Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs should be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
  • Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed timeframe of the intervention. Quotations in response to this RFP must be priced on a Level-of-effort (Number of working days) term contract, all-inclusive basis, including delivery and all other costs. Pricing must be presented in USD and offers must remain valid for not less than 30 calendar days after the offer deadline. Offerors are requested to provide quotations on their official quotation format or letterhead.

**The firm/consultant is required to perform a pre-assessment visit/call to the business before submitting the proposal to assess and quote accordingly**
