Call for ISO 9001 Consultancy and Industry related training - Food System Challenge
Context & Background
Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.
About FSC PROJECT
The Food System Challenge supports businesses to solve core challenges of the food system in Lebanon, and more specifically in the sectors of dairy and meat production (cow, goat, sheep), cereals and pulses (and its by-products), protected horticulture (Classical green houses, hydroponics, and aquaponics), and domesticated edible herbs and plants.
The Food System Challenge is implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Berytech through support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Throughout FSC’s previous and current cycles, the program supported over 40 SMEs to fortify the Lebanese food system to create a more sustainable ecosystem.
Beneficiary background
Mills World, a food processing machinery manufacturer, aims to enhance its operational efficiency, quality control, and overall manufacturing standards. As part of its strategic growth, the company seeks to implement ISO 9001 certification and provide industry-related training for its employees. Additionally, relevant training will improve employee skills in safety protocols, machinery operation, and manufacturing best practices.
Objective
The overall objective of this technical assistance project is to:
- Achieve ISO 9001 Certification: Guide Mills World through the process of obtaining ISO 9001 certification, ensuring alignment with international quality management standards.
- Provide Industry-Specific Training: Offer training in key areas such as safety protocols, machinery operation, quality control, and best manufacturing practices to ensure employees are equipped to meet the company’s evolving operational demands.
Scope of work:
The consultant will be required to deliver the following services:
ISO 9001 Certification Assistance:
- Gap Analysis: Conduct an initial assessment of Mills World’s current operations and identify any gaps in quality management processes that need to be addressed to meet ISO 9001 standards.
- Quality Management System (QMS) Development: Assist in the development and documentation of a quality management system that complies with ISO 9001 standards.
- Implementation Support: Provide guidance on the implementation of ISO 9001 processes, including document control, internal audits, and management reviews.
- Pre-Certification Audit: Perform a pre-certification audit to ensure readiness for the ISO 9001 certification process.
- Liaison with Certification Body: Assist in submitting required documentation and liaising with the certification body for the ISO 9001 audit.
Industry-Related Training:
- Safety Protocols: Conduct training on workplace safety standards, including machinery safety, hazard identification, risk assessment, and emergency response.
- Machinery Operation and Maintenance: Provide training on the safe and efficient operation of newly installed machinery, as well as basic maintenance procedures.
- Manufacturing Best Practices: Conduct workshops on lean manufacturing principles, quality control, and process optimization to improve operational efficiency and reduce waste.
Duration
The consultancy is expected to span 4 months, with specific on-site days to be agreed upon based on project milestones and progress.
Key Deliverables
- ISO 9001 Gap Analysis Report: A detailed report identifying the gaps in the current operations and outlining the steps needed to achieve ISO 9001 certification.
- Quality Management System Documentation: All necessary documentation for the development and implementation of a compliant QMS.
- Training Materials and Records: Comprehensive training materials for safety, machinery operation, and manufacturing best practices, along with attendance and completion records.
- Pre-Certification Audit Report: A report on the findings of the pre-certification audit and the recommended actions to be taken before the final ISO 9001 certification audit.
- ISO 9001 Certification: Assistance in achieving the ISO 9001 certification.
Qualifications:
The selected consultant should have:
- Proven track record of successfully guiding companies through the ISO 9001 certification process, including conducting gap analyses, developing quality management systems (QMS), and preparing for certification audits.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, machinery operation, and safety protocols, particularly within the food processing or related industries.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective training programs in areas such as safety, quality management, and machinery operation.
- Experience in facilitating training workshops and creating educational materials, with a focus on adult learning principles and industry-specific best practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in writing comprehensive reports, manuals, and training documents.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with both senior management and frontline employees, providing actionable feedback and reporting progress effectively
How to apply
The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities soon after selection; the exact timeline and effective working days are to be set based on both the company’s and the Consultant’s availabilities. The total budget allocated for the intervention is between $6,000 and $7,000.
Candidates should submit the following documents.
- Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, Duration, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
- Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs should be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
- Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed timeframe of the intervention.
**The firm/consultant is required to perform a pre-assessment visit/call to the business before submitting the proposal to assess and quote accordingly**
