Turning used oils into biodiesel consists of two key components:
- A take-back system that collects used oils from our customers and general oil consumers in the Lebanese market.
- A recycling process that converts the collected oils into biodiesel and glycerine
Scope of Work
The Process Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Process Design
- Develop a detailed process flow diagram (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) for the recovery process.
- Specify the sequence of operations: mixing, heating, agitation, separation, and oil recovery.
- Define critical process parameters (temperature, soap concentration, mixing speed, residence time, etc.).
- Material and Equipment Selection
- Identify suitable materials for equipment to handle oils, waxes, and chemicals (e.g., soap solution).
- Specify key equipment:
- Mixers and tanks for emulsification.
- Heating systems (e.g., steam jackets or immersion heaters).
- Centrifuges or separators for phase separation.
- Pumps for material transfer.
- Ensure compatibility of materials with process chemicals to avoid corrosion or degradation.
- Mass and Energy Balances
- Calculate material input-output balances to determine the efficiency of oil recovery.
- Perform energy balances to optimize heating requirements and energy consumption.
- Cost Analysis
- Estimate the capital and operating costs, including equipment, utilities, chemicals, and maintenance.
Deliverables
- Deliverable 1: Technical Documentation
- Process flow diagrams (PFDs) and P&IDs.
- Equipment datasheets with sizing and specifications.
- Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the oil recovery process.
- Deliverable 2: Mass and Energy Balances
- Deliverable 3: Cost analysis
Qualifications
The selected consultant or consulting firm must have the following qualifications:
- At least 5-7 years of experience in process design or engineering, preferably in oil recovery, chemical processing, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in working with industrial equipment like centrifuges, tanks, and heating systems.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training and provide hands-on support.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Professionalism and Ethics: Adherence to professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical conduct
- Company profile highlighting relevant qualifications and experience
- Use of tools and methods to finalize the consultancy mission with the support of the beneficiary
- Applications to this proposal can be from independent trainers/consultants, Corporate or Agency
How to apply
The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities at the soonest after selection, and the contract’s duration is 3 months, covering a minimum of 30 hours, with a budget of up to 4,730 Euro.
Candidates should submit the following documents:
- Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
- Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
- Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration and the proposed period of the intervention.
