Medical Coordinator - Part-time - Ref #530
Job Purpose
The role of the Medical Coordinator is to oversee and monitor the hospitalization coverage of patients referred from primary health care to contracted hospitals. This involves ensuring that patients meet the eligibility criteria for support and maintaining a smooth referral pathway between primary and secondary health care.
North and Akkar-Field visits is required under this position.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of required reporting in collaboration with the MEAL Team and Project Coordinator.
- Work closely with the Project Coordinator and health teams to determine the operational needs of program within the scope of the grants and in compliance with donor regulations/Mercy-USA policies and procedures.
- Communicate and follow up with hospital representatives regarding Mercy-USA approval for designated patients.
- Liaise with the Health Caseworkers to ensure database is updated and accurate according to daily approved patients.
- Ensure financial data entry is up to date and cross-checked with the Health Caseworkers on a monthly basis.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality medical care for referred and approved patients.
- Monitor and evaluate medical activities to ensure they meet established standards and objectives.
- Develop and implement protocols and guidelines for medical care.
- Conduct regular visits to the contracted hospitals to ensure a quality of care.
- Liaise with primary health care centers and NGOs supporting PHCCs to facilitate referrals and follow-up care.
- Ensure compliance with the National Health standards and SOPs.
- Participate in internal project review meetings to report on projects’ progress.
- Prepare project documents including financial records for hospitals, monthly commitment letters, and MOUs, amongst other project tools.
- Work closely with the medical doctors and health teams to review medical files and set up recommendations and guidance for patients’ access to quality hospitalization.
- Collaborate and coordinate with national health actors and relevant international health agencies to establish a health referral pathway from primary to secondary health care as per the program requirement and the field needs.
- Work with the Health team to ensure proper plans for patients’ management, and implementation of the referral pathways and system.
- Attend health coordination and working group meetings as well as other coordination meetings.
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops on best practices and protocols.
- Participate in emergency response planning and implementation, provide medical support during emergencies and outbreaks as needed, and ensure readiness for prompt response to health emergencies.
- Maintain flexibility to take on additional responsibility as and when needed.

Minimum Hiring Requirements
- Minimum Medical Degree. License to practice medicine in Lebanon/Member of the LOP.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to motivate colleagues and maintain a positive, respectful attitude in a variety of settings.
- Excellent training and capacity building skills.
- Fluency in Arabic is required with excellent levels of written and spoken English. Working knowledge of French is desirable.
- NGO experience as a Medical Advisor or coordinator is preferable.
- Strong knowledge of the operational aspects of MoPH guidelines on primary and secondary health care.
- Training, coursework or experience in health financing and/or quality improvement highly desirable.
- Experience in the development of material for health technical training is desirable.
- Management skills are desirable.
