Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat.

As part of the IFRC global communications team, the Communications Officer – Video Editor and Graphic Designer will support the MENA team’s design of visual content, and video editing.  S/he will ensure that high-quality content is showcased on IFRC digital platforms, meaning that global messages, issues, emergencies, and resources are available and accessible to our significant Arabic-speaking audience.

Job Purpose

As part of the IFRC global communications team, the Communications Officer – Video Editor and Graphic Designer will support the MENA team’s design of visual content, and video editing.  S/he will ensure that high-quality content is showcased on IFRC digital platforms, meaning that global messages, issues, emergencies, and resources are available and accessible to our significant Arabic-speaking audience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications officer is responsible for:

Video Editing:

  • Providing Video editing at the direction of the communication manager using content gathered from IFRC operations and National societies activities to support the IFRC’s communications and marketing strategies.
  • Reviewing raw material to determine the shot list.
  • Editing film and video footage using modern techniques.
  • Trimming footage and putting together the rough project.
  • Inserting dialog, sound effects, music, graphics, and special effects.
  • Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running.

Graphic design

  • Optimizing graphics and video content for social media platforms.
  • Designing visual content for print and digital IFRC platforms.
  • Creating infographics and presentation materials to simplify the communication of complex data.
  • Working with the X Media Campaigning team to support other design need in Arabic on other digital platforms and global campaigns (when required). This will include supporting design of compelling content to position the work and priorities of the IFRC and its National Societies among Arabic-speaking audiences.
  • Support IFRC web team with adapting design of templates for Arabic layout as needed.
  • With the support of the X Media Campaigning team and/or Regional Office Head of Communications, support Arabic-speaking National Societies with video editing and graphic design advice and training.
  • Actively work towards the achievement of the Federation Secretariat’s goals.
  • Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross and Red Crescent principles.
  • Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager.

Education

University degree in digital communications, marketing, graphic design, or related field. - Required 

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in graphic design and video editing. - Required 
  • Experience working in an international humanitarian, public health, development context, or a related field. - Preferred
  • Experience in social media platforms. - Required 
  • Experience working with Drupal CMS. - Preferred
  • Experience working with HTML, CSS. - Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Languages

  • Team player. - Required 
  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (mainly InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office, DropBox, and G Suite; Adobe XD and Canva. - Required 
  • Demonstrated understanding and use of digital content and platforms for external communications and advocacy purposes. - Required 
  • Comfortable working and communicating in a diverse and international environment. - Required 
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines. - Required
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure. - Required 
  • Be flexible according to work needs (over irregular hours where needed) and priorities while improving team efficiencies and effectiveness within available resources. - Required
