Project summary:

Sport and cultural activities have always been of great importance for individuals, communities, and nations. In the last decades, it has been proven that such activities played a major role in contributing to stronger social bonds and solidarity. It played a major role in bringing people together despite their differences.

Al Midan NGO in partnership with the Local Development Program for Urban Areas in North Lebanon (UDP-NL) has implemented a successful project called Sport Builds Generations in 2020-2022, that capacitated coaches to deliver trainings that taught social-emotional skills through football trainings, events, and tournaments.

The need for such initiatives proved a great success, but considering very few organizations considering these initiatives, the need is still valid and required to achieve advanced results.

Therefore, the aim of this current project: "Activation of Public Spaces and Strengthening of Organizations that Manage Them'' is to help bring several public sites in north Lebanon, that were and are still being rehabilitated and constructed by GIZ under the UDP-NL project to life through a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach with a focus on sustainability. We aim to work closely with the organizations (NGOs, sports clubs, and municipalities) on creating and establishing new activities (basketball, ultimate frisbee, chess club, etc) and events for these spaces. More importantly, this intervention will work closely with the organizations to develop and strengthen their capacities within their organization, which will include technical workshops (marketing and branding, facility management, etc) as well as close mentorship.

Job responsibilities:

  • Close coordination with the operations officer to ensure that the needed capacity development materials/equipment are present and procured when needed.
  • Ensure that the schedule and the timeline of the training are respected as planned.
  • Organize and conduct introductory workshops with each organization to assess their needs.
  • Work closely and support the capacity-building trainers to make sure that the quality of the design and the program’s capacity development activities are delivered as planned in the most effective way.
  • Organize and assist in all the training sessions and activities related to the capacity-building sector and ensure that they are implemented as planned.
  • Organize non-Sportif events with the support of the event and outreach coordinators.
  • Support in logistical and on-spot needs for the capacity-building training. Be the liaison between the capacity-building field staff and the office staff to coordinate and ensure the monitoring and evaluation process and the procurement and delivery of all the needs.
  • Perform regular field visits to ensure that all the non-sports and cultural activities are conducted in the best possible way following the project guidelines.
  • Support in the conduction of prospective/current partner assessments on both technical and organizational levels.
  • Provide day-to-day support and management of capacity strengthening activities with the relevant focal points.
  • Assessing, monitoring, and documentation of partner capacity development process and activities.
  • Maintain physical and electronic (including online documentation) records of all capacity development resources and update them regularly.
  • Responsible for having a wide understanding of partner capacity on all levels to be able to input to the project manager on partner capabilities, areas of weakness, and suitability for programmatic, operational, and capacity development efforts.
  • Prepare monthly reports for all activities.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by your direct supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, public administration, social science, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in capacity-building management.
  • Experience in coordinating learning events.
  • Experience with participatory learning events.
  • Monitoring and evaluation experience preferred.
  • Instructional design experience preferred.
  • Proven project management and planning, organizational, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Proven interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
