The holder of this position will be implementing the Emotional Support sessions with parents/caregivers. These sessions aim to provide the parents/caregivers with the safe space where they receive the necessary psycho-social support that they need in order to deal with the crisis, difficult events and stressors, and to enhance their resilience to cope and confront. This process will help them to understand and contain their children amidst the different challenges that they’re being subjected to during emergencies and crisis times.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Previous experience in the provision of Psychosocial support sessions for parents/caregivers and how to deal with their children and support them during emergencies and crisis.
  • The ability to understand the impact caused by the traumatizing events during emergency situations on both caregivers and children.
  • Demonstrate very good and experienced facilitation skills that makes them eligible to conduct the sessions in a professional manner while respecting the Do No Harm humanitarian principle.
  • Demonstrating the ability to communicate positively, in an effective and interactive way, in addition to conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage the group of parents/caregivers in regards to the existing dynamic.
  • Ability to handle the different situations that can happen during the emotional support sessions in a professional manner.
  • Ability to manage the time and resources properly.
  • Being flexible in adapting the intervention and priorities with the field requirements amidst emergencies, taking in to consideration the objectives and agreement that is set by the caregivers themselves. 
  • Ensure participation of caregivers in the focused program in a non-discriminatory as well as age and gender sensitive and appropriate approach.
  • Ensure that the caregivers feel safe, comfortable and respected during activities.
  • Collects and documents feedback on the implementation of the methodology including challenges and lessons learnt.
  • Ensure that caregivers are aware of any accountability/ complaint mechanisms.
  • Ensure sector specific tools (example: satisfaction or wellbeing survey) as well as any specific organization assessment tools are implemented (PPAT – Satisfaction Surveys – etc.).
  • Collect attendance of participants in the activities, and fill in weekly and monthly reports as required;
  • Respect and abide to the organization’s internal code of conduct and child protection policy;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Experiences:

  • University degree in psychology, social work, and / or social sciences.
  • At least 2 years working with parents/caregivers.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills (including active listening).
  • Flexibility in working hours and willing to work in volatile environments.
  • Knowledge in Child Protection minimum standards or principles.
  • Previous experience in working with refugees or / and vulnerable population.
  • The ability and experience to provide the sessions with a co-facilitator to the caregivers in a collaborative manner.
  • Comfortable in communicating in both Arabic and English languages (English for reporting is a must).
  • Experience in remote modality of activities’ implementation is a plus.
  • Experience in the provision of emergency response is a plus.
  • Knowledge in Safe Identification and Referral is a must.
  • Knowledge in Psychological First Aid is a must.
  • Technical knowledge and skills in Child protection principles, and their application in emergencies.
  • Previous experience in the implementation of focused non-specialized psychosocial activities with children and caregivers.
  • Positively interact with parents/caregivers and encourage them to express their needs and ensure their safety.
