Sanabel Nour is a local non-governmental, non-profit organization located in Tripoli, Lebanon with a mission to support the vulnerable population in Tripoli and North Lebanon through a multi-faceted approach to basic services including Education, Health, and Financial support. Sanabel Nour offers support to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation.

 

Responsibilities

As a member of SANABEL’s executive team, the physician is responsible for identifying patient/ family needs in addition to providing supportive care in accordance with the plan of care set with the hospice Nurse.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Physician must hold a valid License/ Registration to practice in Lebanon with successful completion of a residency in (Family Medicine/general practitioner, ICU, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology….) with at least have at least 2 years of experience post qualification.

Having a diploma or valid training in palliative care and/or pain management is strongly recommended.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure admission and supervision of patients in addition to evaluating and determining goals of care, care plan, and monitoring of plan implementation.
  • Provide medical care to hospice patients through home visits (at least once a week for all patients).
  • Establish a care plan for each patient in collaboration with oncologist, nurses and psychologist and the different caregivers (family members, various medical specialists).
  • Prescribe or administer medication, therapy and other specialized medical care to manage or palliate disease and symptoms.
  • Is available for the nurse/s and families on as deemed necessary or urgent by the nurse/s, through the care period.
  • Ensure weekly meeting with executive team to discuss patients’ update, progress, and challenges faced.
  • Hold and keep up to date medical files of the patients.
  • Analyze records, reports and test results to diagnose patients medical condition
  • Manage an efficient and effective medical service dedicated to quality and patient care, in conjunction with the rest of the medical team.
  • Maintain a commitment to keep up to date and to develop knowledge and skills in palliative care and other aspects of professional development.
  • Take part in administrative functions that ensure the continued operations of the clinical environment, such as committees, task forces and performance improvement measures.
  • Present a monthly report of his/her medical activity to SANABEL NOUR’s administration.
  • Conduct regular and periodic meetings with the team, to ensure implementation of the internal medical and nursing policies.

Must be able to apply facts and principles to issues to determine conclusions and solve problems. They must use knowledge and logic to find patters in happenings and determine causes and provide solutions.

Communication

Must be able to clearly convey thoughts and ideas to gauge patient issues. They must also be great listeners and ask questions that involve the patient and make the environment open and relaxed.

Empathy

Must be very compassionate and able to empathize with a patient's pain and other difficulties. They are able to make people feel comfortable and meet them at their emotional level to humanize themselves and let people know they care.

Stress Management

Must be emotionally stable and deal with stress effectively, so they can help others who cannot deal with their emotions or stress. Must be a solid foundation and be able to handle stress and separate personal emotion so as to stay objective and be effective in treatment.

Ethics

Must have a solid ethical code and keep sessions with patients confidential as they can greatly affect people's lives and they deal with people at extremely vulnerable times in their lives. Must know that there could be consequences for error.

Patience

Need to be very patient, because of potentially long sessions with patients and while dealing with people under tremendous stress and illness. They must understand it takes time to see results and be willing to put in that time.

Trustworthiness

People have to trust you. The job is all about inspiring patients and working with them through very difficult times. If they don't trust you, they won't respond to your treatment attempts.
