Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) is offering an internship opportunity to expose successful candidates to practical experience in an international development organisation and learn the fundamental principles of programme management within the democracy assistance sector. Working alongside WFD and parliamentary staff, the intern will:

  • Collect and prepare publications and research papers for the Lebanese Parliament website (coordination with the directorate of research and information)
  • Support the Lebanese Parliament website's web administration team in typing, editing short texts, and collecting documents.
  • Liaise between the “Bill tracking system” unit and the Web administration team
  • Close coordination with WFD's communication expert

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wishes to gain insight and experience of working with democracy, political, parliamentary, and civil society practitioners in an international set up.

As an intern you will be provided with mentorship support and on the job training opportunities that will help you prepare to take up a professional role in the governance and democracy support sector. You will get opportunities to meet and interact with UK and international experts on parliamentary affairs, democratic practices and governance issues. You will be encouraged to learn about and be provided with materials and other support to develop expertise on democracy, elections, parliaments, accountability and women’s participation in the decision-making process. In addition you will be provided with WFD's research materials on various governance issues and have the opportunity to discuss this with relevant researchers, authors and experts.

 

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or final year undergraduate student in Political Science & Public Administration, International relations and Diplomacy, Law or any Social Science discipline from a recognized University.
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written), as well as a critical eye for editing and good grammar. Expertise in social media engagement will be an added advantage.
  • Experience and skills in the use of MS Office Suite
  • Strong demonstrable passion and interest and in parliaments and democracy building
  • Experience in researching and reporting
  • Parliamentary and political understanding
  • Highly results driven and seeks to get the most from any opportunity
  • Organizational skills including ability to coordinate several tasks to meet deadlines
