JOB TITLE: Media & Communication Officer

LOCATION: Beirut, with occasional field visits across Lebanon

ABOUT ABAAD

ABAAD – Resource Centre for Gender Equality is a UN ECOSOC-accredited organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region.

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the Media and Communication Coordinator, the incumbent will be assisting with the development of ABAAD’s media relations, social media platforms, high level editorial content (articles, features, news stories, blogs) and other relevant outreach activities as required. This individual will help lead media work to support programmatic, policy and campaigning priorities, and organisational activities nationally, globally and regionally. The Media & Communications Officer’s work will play a central role in building awareness of and support for ABAAD and its priority issues in the media, and within legislatures, governments and United Nations entities. In addition, the individual will help develop content for external communications (success stories, brochures, newsletters, editorials, web-articles etc.). High-level English and Arabic editorial/writing skills are essential.

REPORTING LINES:

Post holder reports to:  Media and Communication Coordinator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Support in the design, development and implementation of project communication plans

-Provide proper visibility of ABAAD activities through producing materials, small videos, and documentaries, amongst others;

-Prepare for and contribute in the organization of project events such as workshops, trainings, press conferences etc.;

-Ensure press engagement, and coverage for various ABAAD events, and supply media with needed information and resources;

-Organize interviews, as needed;

-Prepare content and plan social media posts on project events and materials to be uploaded on ABAAD platforms and website

-Create and maintain a library of photographs, videos, and other materials for communication;

-Undertake other reasonable tasks as delegated and/or directed by the management.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of two years of experience working for an I/NGO is a must
• University degree in Marketing, Journalism, Media, Public Relations or related discipline, including gender and development;
• Proven track record of working in a similar capacity with the nation and/or international NGOs in the region;
• Knowledge of gender and gender equality;
• Exceptional writing skills in both Arabic and English languages (French is a plus);
• Knowledge and skills in computer usage including word, excel, power point, and social media;
